Parallax.... with changing dominance(long)

I read it.........

OOOh....you didn't read the op's first post.

I see where he said that in the beginning. I understand where that was coming from.

Where we went with the phone lesson was totally different from what the beginning of the thread was about.

Renfro is a very accomplished player that has been fooled by his eyes as many players have been over the years. But this is really more common than I ever could have imagined when I first started teaching Perfect Aim. But I am always learning it seems just like everyone else. The difference is I work with enough players to see we are all so much alike. Especially with the eyes and how they work.

We are natural predators and when the one eye gets blocked or is not in the right position the other one takes over. It might not be the best view but it is better than not seeing it at all. It's designed for survival. Especially if we were hunting with our hands and crude weapons as our ancestors did many years ago. In fact if you get something in one eye the other one takes over automatically. It's just the way nature is.

As far as aiming a pool shot, if the non dominant eye is not kept from being dominant it will try to be on certain shots, thus giving you a false picture, or should I say not perfect picture such as your dominant eye can give you. That's why sometimes you could swear you have it aimed right and you missed it by a mile. Your non dominant eye did it to you but you can't tell.

He found out that he was left eye dominant and when he makes the adjustments needed with Perfect Aim the shots look pretty perfect.

Your going to hear more from Renfro on here. What he figured out in the last 2 days is a total game changer for him. Soon he will have no bad days. At least not because of his aiming ability. He definitely has the natural sight lined up.

You take a player of his ability and dedication, learn what the eyes are doing exactly and there is no telling how far he can go.

Anyway, I was very excited for him.

Have a great week geno.............

So where are they supposed to be for left handers? And is it possible that wrong eyed dominant players are just out of line?

Both are out of line............

Same eye dominant players and opposite eye dominant players both get out of line. They both have exactly the same problems with the vision regardless of which hand or eye they are.

The right eye does the aiming when you cut to the right. The left to the left.
When you cut to the way of your dominant eye it is much easier than cutting the way of the non dominant eye.

Unless you know exactly how to adjust you cannot consistently get the eyes in the correct position to see the shots the way you need to.

This is why you can seem to see it good but you miss the shot by a mile. Even a simple shot.

It is the way the eyes work. We just have to figure it out and learn to get it the best that we can.

The ones that get there close enough to shoot really well are very lucky.

The ones that learn Perfect Aim and learn how to see all shots correctly are even luckier.... it is what it is...........

Have a great day geno................

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I seem to have the same problem with aiming. Not sure this is an eye dominance thing or not. But I have the same problem as the OP.

Some background...I've been shooting for about 25 years...although the first 10 were very serious...the last 15 not so much. I just got serious again early this year. I go though very hot and very cold spells. When I am in a cold spell, I am regularly missing shots where the cue is close to the object and the object is close to the pocket...very frustrating. When I am on, I can run racks...when not, I can't run more than 1-2 balls. Just had this happen to me the other night playing straight pool...couldn't run more than 3 balls.

I feel like I can't "see" the object ball...or at least see where to hit it. At best, when I am in this kind of slump, it is a guess. Other times, when I am "on", I feel like I can see exactly where to hit the object ball.

I am right handed and right eye dominant (at lease for target shooting). I always thought I was right eye dominant at pool...but now am not so sure. I can see left cut shots better than right cut shots (I always chalked that up to the cue ball being in the way when I am cutting to the right). But if I understand one of the posts correctly, my right eye will see right cut shots and my left eye will see left cut shots.

I thought it was my glasses. It was so bad earlier this year that I tried shooting w/o glasses, but can't see the length of the table clearly. I considered having glasses w/ a special focal length made...but now am not so sure that is the problem (considering that sometimes I am perfectly fine w/ my glasses).

I've tried raising my head up to get over the shot...that worked a little...but I feel much more comfortable being lower (chin close to cue). I've also tried getting mu chin centered over the cue and my right eye centered over the cue...neither seems to make much of a difference, so I pretty much center my chin over the cue.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks;

John

It all depends........

So where are they supposed to be for left handers? And is it possible that wrong eyed dominant players are just out of line?

It all depends on if you are right eye dominant or left eye dominant. But once you determine that it's the same for everyone.

Just checking on your progress...........

I also called Geno last about the eye dominance thing and WOW. I mean I only had the oppportunity to play about 2 hours with his advices and for once I feel like I'll break barriers soon. I'm still under the effect of 'lack of practice' because I took a few months off but its finally coming back.

Thanks Geno +1 and Blackjack for their help.

Hi there JimboJim,

Just checking to see how things were working out for you.

Let us know. Thanks geno...........
