Pattern Racking vs. The Ghost

Does anyone do it? For those that do or have, do you notice a significantly higher run out percentage?

Usually when I play the ghost I only make sure the 2 is behind the 9 since most tournaments have that rule. I don't know much about pattern racking. I did see a Joe T. video on youtube where he plays the ghost and talks about a pattern rack to make easier run outs.

I pattern rack against the ghost. I'm not good enough to beat Casper on a regular basis, even with pattern racking. When pattern racking against the ghost becomes too easy and Casper doesn't stand a chance, then I'll start random racking.

Ocullo

Pattern Racking like Orcullo at the Swanne.

Showed that it was really easy.

Most of the time the balls went to the same location.
It was uncanny the six and nine ball were in the same location, rack after rack.

I am now practicing shooting shots from the semi-predictible locations after the break.
I am running more racks as a consequence.

With all the games I have seen, don't know how I never noticed this.

Pattern Racking will soon be banned, just like Corey's soft break at big tournaments.

Thank Jeniffer for Free Streaming on Internet, Opps, I mean God.
Focus Barney Focus.....grin

I pattern rack against the ghost and I do consider it weight. I have a tight table with 4 1/8" corners and 4 1/2" sides so I am currently taking weight from the ghost (It's the equipment, not my skill level ;) ). I use the Magic Rack and consider it weight too.

Here's the pattern that I find works the best on my table using the MR and the soft break. Breaking to pocket the 5 ball.

--1
-2-8
3-9-5
-6-7
--4

Sometimes the 4 ball gets trapped low with the 6,7,8,9 balls if my speed is off. Also, the one ball can be made in the side if I don't hit it square (hit it to the inside with the CB).

If the humidity is dry, I can slow break, hit 1/16" inside on the one ball with slight draw, pocketing the 5 in the corner, 1 in the side and get position on the two ball which comes up to the corner pocket that I'm breaking from.

I need the weight because that bastard sharks me.

In my opinion pattern racking is against the spirit of the game and cheapens the significance of the win when this technique is used. Pool is about shooting straight and solving puzzles. If you make the puzzles too easy to solve, then what has been accomplished?

I always rack randomly without paying any attention to what goes where. With 9 ball 1 in the front and 9 in the middle. Simple as that.

I also hate soft breaking, but that is another story....

Well, figuring out all the paths the balls take, and coming up with the best racking order, could be called solving a puzzle. Dennis solved the puzzle while most others aren't even opening the box.

I get what you're saying, that fresh new puzzles keep the game from getting stale. Pool's not meant to have an endpoint like a video game... Like "welp, I beat 9 ball. All of it."

I would hesitate to say too easy though. Guys like Dennis make it look that way. But I don't know if a typical B player beats the 9b ghost even with pattern racking.
