I am working on trying to get back in this game after a 15 year layoff. Over the years, I've owned and have played with various cues. I have a few cues, but nothing as an every day player. I now live in South Florida and am only 20 minutes from Paul Dayton. I haven't played with his cues and wonder if anyone can give a comparison to how they hit or what they hit like that I may be familiar with. I have vistited his shop and like his work. Any help would be appreciated.

Any other cues that have a comparable hit? I'm looking for a point of reference.

i've seen one of his cues in person. and from the pictures he looks to let the woods he uses compliment each other. i haven't played with one for years though so i couldn't comment on the hit. he had a really nice one pointed out in billiards digest

I see you play with a Southwest. Are Daytons similar in type of hit?

I know the deal. It's that part of it that is driving me nuts. I have to work very hard on the mental basics.

He has some nice looking cues (players) for a reasonable price.

And he has to feed those 5 little Yorkies that Heidi had on Jan. 18th .... LOL

ChipD,
I met Paul Dayton for the first time at the Valley Forge show last month. We ran into each other at a cue broker's booth. We talked about cues/construction for some time. I have never played with one of his cues however I will say I was very impressed with his knowledge. And he has been building cues for a long time. I think you would be very satisfied with one of his cues.

Best Regards,
Hal

I had no idea that there were that many cuemakers in my general area. Thank you all for the info. This has compounded my uncertainty, although I feel very confident that I would enjoy one of Paul's cues.

I have two cues made by Paul. One five years ago and the second four years ago. Both have the old growth shafts and are excellent cues both in playability and build/quality. They are "keepers" for me and I play regularly with them. As for Ted Harris, I also have dealt with him in the past and will never again. I highly recommend Dayton.

You certainly can't go wrong with a Dayton. However, go out of your way to check out Omen Cues. They have a very different hit from Daytons and you might come away with a distinct preference for one over another.
