Paul Mottey Cue/What do I expect?

I just recently acquired a wrapless Paul Mottey butt from a good freind. It has what appears to be a Predator style 12 mm shaft with what appears to be a Low Deflection ferrule. Can't attest to the fact if the ferrule is LD or not as I have no experience with a short ferrule.

@ 18 oz.

I've hit it a few times and just enough to know that I don't much care for the black soft tip and plan on changing the tip at some point and plan on making this my main player.

Is there anything I can expect in terms of good or bad surprises about this cue?

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

Mottey is a legend making cues. They are highly sought, and as well made as any. Does the cue have any original shafts? If not, There were 2 for sale from the Pool Table Magic fellow. If they don't match, see if someone else may have one or have one of the many fine cue makers fix you up.

All of his cues that I have seen or played with have all played very well. His workmanship was as close to perfect as I have EVER seen in a cue. I'm sure you will end up happy.

I would defiantly recommend at least trying the cue with an original shaft. It will probably play completely different .

The question is what can you do with the cue>

You might have the newer JMW shaft. Post pictures. PM,or MOTTEY. on the butt ? I might take the shaft off your hands, for the right Price.Nice MOTTEY Shafts are spend y 300+ mark

Thank you to all of you who provided intelligent responses in regards to it.

As soon as I can, I will post photos of it (not for bragging rights) as this is my first acquisition of a custom cuemaker's cue and not having any familiarity with it, it helps to know what I've gotten myself into.

I will search for an original shaft or try to procure somewhere down the line.

I will keep this cue for a while as I know that Mr. Mottey is now retired and no longer making them so I know their value is starting to creep up a little. There is no doubt about the quality of craftsmanship and as I previously mentioned, I do love the feel, balance, and hit of the cue with exception to the soft black tip which will be changed.

I gave way to good a price for it to just flip it this soon.

Thanks again.

Hope to see y'all around someday.
