Paul Mottey Cue

The Only Way I'd Let The Mottey Go.....

My cue from Mr. Owen should be completed by next month and I can't stop there.
So I'm contemplating my next cue and the cue-maker I'd love to have is Ed Prewitt.
But a nice one is gonna push me into the $5k neighborhood and that's a little steep.

So maybe if I found a Prewitt I liked a lot....a whole lot....then the Mottey could be sold.....well maybe, depends on how nice the Prewitt cue was.
It would help pay for the EP assuming I was fortunate to find one. Brian Parks (US Amateur Champ) out of Bakersfield has a really nice Ed Prewitt.
His was low $5k and it's a sweet looking cue with BEM, gorgeous veneers. tasteful inlays and a cue butt sleeve on par with Tad Kohara's best work.

Somehow I am not optimistic about finding a EP cue and so I'm trying to come up a back-up plan.....perhaps a custom Richard Black cue like his Alamo cue design.
However, if the cue Bob is making for me turns out as nice as I hope, Mr. Owen could wind up with another order. For the price of the EP cue, I could swing two
Bob Owen cues or a Bob Owen and a Richard Black.....so the EP cue would really have to be special for me to ever consider selling my Mottey.

Besides, I have the cash in hand for a 2nd Owen cue, or a RB cue, but my cue fund isn't yet sufficient to start browsing and try scoring a fancy Ed Prewitt cue.

p.s really nice collection of cues owned by SCCues.
p.p.s. And Badbeat13 would get 1st crack @ my PM.

I edited your post a little Matt so I could comment on the highlights.

I hope you find you an EP that pleases you and I'm sue your Bob Owen cue will make you happy.

I hope you get to keep your sweet Mottey, but I'd love to have a shot at that cue if it came available. So for you to say I have 1st crack at, I say thank you. That's nice of you and I much appreciate it.

You want to talk about low cue funds, I find myself going overboard quite often. I have such an addiction that I just can't stop myself from acquiring more cues. .I've got another Mottey coming in the mail tomorrow and now I'm almost to the point where I couldn't afford $89 for a Players' cue...lol.

When and if you sell your Mottey, my funds may be built back up by then. And if I had to buy it today I could get the funds. I'm about to have 4 of Paul's cues and I'd love to have that jewel as a 5th PM.

Thank you Matt, Jerry

I played with my Mottey yesterday for the first time since September 30th......I was just not leaving the cue ball in the right position for my next shot.
Everything seems to be coming up short playing with my Scruggs cue and I started over-stroking to compensate.

Now I usually play with all my cues more regularly than that but I had rotator cuff surgery on 10/1 and just started playing pool again at end of last month.
Anyway, for some reason my Scruggs cue just didn't seem to be leaving the cue ball where I had intended and so I switched cues.

I actually forgot how well a Mottey cue plays and how extraordinary mine seems to perform, at least for me. I was averaging around 3-4 to innings per
rack of ten ball playing 10 ball and it wasn't due to my opponent's play either. I changed cues and it improved to 2 innings and a couple of runout tables
playing with my Mottey cue........it's just an amazing cue......the cue ball moves effortlessly.......position play was just so much better......Wow.......I'd forgotten
how great a Paul Mottey cue plays......

Next month I hope to be getting two (2) cues from Bob Owen.......my custom that's been underway for awhile now and a Shurtz cue butt I picked up on ebay
that was damaged so I sent it to Bob for repair and two new shafts......so I'll be getting two new cues from Bob and if either plays as well as my Mottey cue
does, I'm am going to be in "Nirvana".......got my fingers crossed....but if not. so what....I still have this cue to use......amazing playability.

p.s. Badbeat13 still retains 1st dibs on my Mottey cue.

This cue?

Hi Matt,
I was wondering, did that cue come from Hawaii?
This is a cropped photo of a 8 Pt. Paul Mottey I bought from John Wright.
I mailed back the cue to Paul and requested the addition of an Ivory Butt cap,
Ivory Joint and remove the BUSKA Ring above the wrap.
Re-finished..

If it is, is is a beautiful cue.. You got a "Monster"..( )

Just wonderin'..... :)

Alton,

I actually got the cue at the end of 2012 from the original owner who was a retired FBI agent. He ordered the cue from Paul after they personally met through a mutual acquaintance.
At the time I bought the cue, the original cue owner was living in Michigan. It was originally listed on ebay for $3800 in July 2012 and didn't sell. The owner and I started communicating
thru ebay "Ask the seller" feature.

The cue was relisted two more times and then price dropped to $3500...didn't sell.....owner and I kept in touch throughout these listings.....Towards the end of the year I gave him an offer
to consider......he listed the cue again on ebay after I gave him an offer......he called me and said he would just end the auction if I still wanted it but it was $150 more than my prior offer
but he'd include overnite, insured shipping........no brainer for me......I jumped on the opportunity to get this cue.

Below is the original owner's ebay description of the cue on ebay:

Custom made Paul Mottey pool cue, very nice condition. I bought this stick special order from Paul back in 1991.
I played with it sparingly for about 6 months. It's been sitting in a hard shell case ever since. Beautiful stick, nice feel, lot of complements.
Lays flat and hits true. One owner, never broke with it. Hard shell case and joint protectors included.

•Body - Birdseye Maple
•Body Joint - Ivory w/ stainless steel pin
•Inlays - Ivory & Ebony
•Points - Ivory
•Shafts - Three 13mm, 12.9mm, 12.6mm
•Ferrules - Ivory
•Shaft Joint - Brass (see pic.)
•Weight - 18oz (low)
•Wrap - Cortland Irish Linen
•Butt - Delrin
•No Returns
Free shipping U.S. only

I count my blessings to this day.....bought my Sruggs and Mottey cues on pure whims and both cues turned out better than I ever imagined.

Nothing has changed Matt, this is one bad ass Mottey! I'll always have interest, should you ever decide to sell. THANX

This is my other player along with the Mottey

Here's couple of shots of my other player......I'm torn between which of these two cues hits better.........it's really a coin flip.
