With 32, I would pay out 8 places like this:
1st - 35%
2nd - 25%
3rd - 15%
4th - 10%
5th-6th - 5% each
7th-8th - 2.5% each
With lower or higher numbers, I think a good rule of thumb is to pay about 25% of the field.
Aaron
So....using this payout scale percentage with 32 players and a $10 entry, this would be the payouts.
1st - $112
2nd - $80
3rd - $48
4th - $32
5/6 - $16
7/8 - $8
So....you can see that after many matches and getting 7/8th, you would actually lose $2. It's not an exact science with payouts. I would suggest giving 7/8th a $15 or $20 payout and bump up 5/6th a little by trimming some from 1st and second.
You can play around with the payout percentage a wee bit, but remember, if the same people are winning these tournaments your field will get smaller and smaller.
trying to get a break down for 128 entrys and 32 get paid???
Doesn't the US Open have 128 players? If so, I would look at the US Open payouts and reverse-engineer their payout structure.
Aaron
If I could get 32 players, I would charge more than $10 entry and hopefully have a little added money as well. The payout schedule I posted is the same one used by the Midwest 9-Ball Tour, and it seems to work fine.
Aaron
US Open 9-Ball is 256 players, and they pay out to 64th place.

I agree, if the bar adds money, then 7/8th gets a little more along with the rest of the field.
It's tough to get added money for a weekly tourny. If you are holding a big, once a year or so tourney, then that's a different story.
Yes, and as much as you'd like to give everybody at least their entry fee back, sometimes you can't really do it without added money.
But this guy's talking about 128 players. If that's a weekly tournament, I want to move wherever it is.
Aaron
LOL, you and me both. Our weekly tournies, which I hardly play in, usually get 8 to 16 guys. :frown:
Just to put Ray's question in perspective, here are his payouts from last year. He runs a major regional bar-table tournament. I don't know how many players he had last year. But he paid $12,300 to 32 players:
1. 4000
2. 2000
3. 1000
4. 800
5-6. 500
7-8 400
9-12 200
13-16 125
17-24 100
25-32 75
thanks, if we get 128 players, 32 get paid. plus 10k added . so with the entry fees and the 10k added , it should be a good tourney. usually wat we to is if there is over 100 we still pay 32 spots.
