paypal as a gift for cue sellers..

Every time this question comes up, the assumption is always that the seller is not reputable but the buyer is... its not like the buyer would agree to lets say... a three day trial period and on the 5th or 6th day try and reverse the purchase.. that's never happened...

As someone that has done war with Paypal, they play both sides of the fence a lot of times and the first person to log a civil complaint, ie file a police report, usually gets the judgement in a hotly contested issue.

Just saying...

We always request F&F or add 4% for paypal fees. We deal a lot of cues and have a perfect reputation. We don't mark up our cues enough to cover those expenses. shipping is another factor. Throw ebay in the mix and now buyers are paying for shipping costs, paypal costs, and ebay fees one way or the other. Sellers can build fees in or give the option to the buyer.

Why are you attempting to squeeze an extra 1% from your buyers?

So charge more than paypal in fees is saving a customer money? Buyers that send money as a gift are just playing with fire until they get screwed. I really can't believe the amount of ads that request it, and find it hard to believe people put themselves at risk for so little difference in money.

If your profit margin is 30 dollars on a 1000 dollar cue, then why sell them.

I sell a lot of cues and don't set my margins very high. Every deal is different though. Most people that buy from me have bought from me before and are more than happy to send F&F. Most dealers on certain sites have a perfect reputation and can deal this way. Why sell $1000 cue for $30 profit? sometimes you have to. Being a cue dealer isn't the best job in the world but I really enjoy it. Most of my customers come back to me over and over as they know they can trust us and we don't try to make a fortune off of them. I do understand your point, but most companies from airlines, auto repair, etc have fees on top of fees. Yes we can build them in or try to avoid a few. Just business.

*** I sent a guy over $2000 yesterday for cues F&F or I was paying the fees. He had the right people to vouch for him and all the right signals that he was good to do business with.

You still haven't answered the question as to why you are over charging your customers for PayPal fees? It seems to me you are encouraging them to attempt to save a few bucks and risk sending as a gift in case that "small" smudge on the butt is more of a large scratch...

I find it ironic the you say your a cue dealer and sell a lot of cues but have over 1000 posts but zero ITrader here on AZ... Not doubting you of course. I just find it funny... Oh yeah, NEVER send as gift...

fees

I have no clue what your talking about overcharging. 99% of the time it is F&F, Money orders etc that we all deal with. Someone asked if anyone did and I explained how we and most dealers work. I do not advise anyone to buy from someone with no reputation without the protection of escrow or at least G&S. Similar to our GAL here. Guys on it don't have to post. Guys not on it Gotta post.

And you are correct I do not sell anything on here. Most of my posts would be in the action room. We sell most things in other places.

This is actually why I dont even frequent this site much anymore. Everything is an argument.

Sir, you must not understand how the pricing model on PayPal works. A kind gentleman on this thread was very precise: 2.9% + $0.30 (less if you clear $10k per month).

Hence you are overcharging if people send you 4%.

FYI your alphabet soup posts do not make you sound any more credible.

Pay Pal gift

Does anyone actually pay for cues as a paypal gift? Gives buyers no recourse if they get screwed out of the cue or any other product. Can't imagine wanting to save the small fee on just to try and sell the cue for a tiny amount less.

Seems like a great way to get scammed to me, but I haven't brought many cues in the last 4 years. Is this the new way people try and save a little bit of money?

At one time I thought I was doing some one a favor by sending money as a gift.

It really doesn't work at all.... Tax rate on gifted money is 50%
Sooner or later a seller will burn you.
And it is a clear breach of the contract you have with pay pal.
You cannot claim shipping costs on your taxes either if gifted.

Usually when I see the pay as gift request I close the thread.

I have said I will add 2 or 3 percent and pay as goods if it is something I really want.

CURIOUS ~ I've done several PP deals here,FB,and E-bay with no problems so far. What happens if someone sells a mint condition cue then buyer wants to be an ass & contests it?Does seller get cue back when it may have been abused in the short time buyer has it,how does this work?

Not necessarily. I was scammed by a buyer who did a chargeback through his credit card company and they did not require him to return the item in question.

I protested and ultimately won but it took 5 months.

I've been told of some big cue sales (In the thousands.) where this was done and the sellers were out their money and the cues.

Never send money as a gift. You have no protection that way.

The seller always should eat the fees, unless the buyer chooses to use PayPal.

I won't do it... I don't ask people to do that or do I do it for someone. PayPal is a service that provides me a quick safe way to pay for or get paid for products. They deserve to get paid for this service. Essentially if you lie and say it's a gift your a thief yourself.

Dealing With The Unexpected

My business concerns dealing with the unexpected. I encounter events that happen that most people think would never happen.

In that light, let me describe a possible scenario.

You buy a cue from a reputable seller. The seller suffers an unexpected and unfortunate accident and is either unable to ship your cue immediately, or within a reasonable time frame, or in a worst case scenario, he dies and your cue is never shipped.

You have no recourse through PayPal and will at the mercy of his heirs sifting through his affairs, assuming he has heirs.

Unlikely? Maybe. Impossible? No, bad things happen.

Never gift for goods and services.

Seems like escrow is the only good way to deal for any item you can't afford to just give away, split the fees maybe?

I have gifted for purchases, small purchase I don't mind, large purchases only if I feel I am dealing with a reputable seller. If I am not dealing with someone with a large i-trader, I probably would only do a purchase with escrow. Although, some of the posts here having me possibly changing my habits.
