I just saw on facebook a 251k added dart event coming up in Kansas City. Poolplayers need to drink more I guess ???

That's the one I don't get! It's always pool vs golf and why golf can succeed for the pros, but not pool. But darts just does not appeal to me at all, and I can't see why one bar sport can have such success, but not pool.

Should you watch one of those events, you would see how many spectators there are and how supportive they are towards both players and sponsors (as this crowd drinks a lot).

I guess one of the reasons, that such a breakthrough was possible in darts, was that Dart's Pros did not mind (got used to) having a little background noise :rolleyes:

Dart Tournament and Golden Tee - they have added up to $50K for Golden Tee before. This year I think they are adding $25K and also they are giving away a brand new Harley as a door prize for the Golden Tee players. I partnered up with another player last year to split what we won in the Golden Tee tournament and we walked out with over $1800 for about 9 hours of work. And that was far from the top prize.

Also given out are legitimate door prizes - golf clubs, etc. For my tournament in Chicago in two weeks, one of the door prizes is a free trip for two to Vega$.

This is what can happen when

1. The industry works together not against itself. The vendors created a group (Club Lucky) and each pay a membership based on how many dart boards or Golden Tees they have.

2. The players actually support the host locations where the tournaments take place. You should have came out to my tournament in St Louis in April so you could see for yourself because no one believes it til they see it. Ever see a pool player buy 400 shots in a day. I've had a Golden Tee player do it. Ever see a pool player buy 160 shots of Patron. I've had a Golden Tee player do it. It is not - IF the host location can get even for having the event. It is HOW MUCh will they make. Oh and the winner always buys a round of shots for every player in the room.

BTW - the best dart player is from the St Louis area.

From repeated first hand observation:

Dart tournament: hardcore players showing up with family and friends. Drinking, eating, and spending all day.

Pool tournaments: hardcore players show up alone. Complain about entry or greens fees. Drink nothing but plain water after finding out bottled water costs money, or alternately soda if there are free refills. Food is a bag from mcdonalds they snuck in the door and eat as clandestinely as possible. Or bar peanuts/popcorn (only if free).

And people wonder why pool halls encourage leagues, which funny enough, are the only part of pool that is doing anything today.

251k added to dart turny

who cares thought this was a pool forum i am a pool player who drinks and i am sick of hearing how pool players dont drink not evry dart player drinks either and the guy who runs pool turnys does a great job in my area no complants from me he has a turny just about evry weekend during pool season he adds good money and runs it fair for the most point nobody is perfect bump to john stich and the mpa pool organization

Rob - I run Golden Tee tournaments - take a guess how much the average Golden Tee player drinks during a tournament? Nevermind, I;ll answer it - $250. That would take 20 pool players to add up to that much.

wow than u have found the holly grail congrats to u if i could make that much i would hold golden tee turnys also nice job but not evry person that holds a golden tee turny does that good u are varry lucky i hope u appreciate those golden tee players u have but i said nothing about goldentee i was speaking about dart players blabing on about how much more they drink than pool players pool is more skill than darts will ever be in my oppinion and most dart players i c act like complete idiots sinc they drink so much more than poolplayers how come knowone opens a dart hall i c tons of pool halls evrywhere

Pool is Broken

If you asked 100 random people this question.

"Hey I play pool for a living. What do you think of that?"
I bet that most would say "so your a hustler?"

"Hey I play darts for a living. What do you think of that?"
I have no idea what the answer would be.

And there lies the answer to the question.

People don't like to be hustled.
But that is what is projected to the public.

You play pool so your a hustler.

Pool = Hustler

Darts = ?

Don :confused:
