Pechauer v McDermott

i have a pechauer j15 with matching predator shaft and i find the hit and balance perfect, although i havent played alot with a mcdermott i would have to choose pechauer at this present time!

I would suggest you try out a Joss in the same price range before committing to anything.

I have similarly priced Joss & Pechauer.
Very, very close in hit & quality.

McDermott for all the reasons everyone else has given. Personally I don't like the hit and feel of Peschauer cues (I own two that I really like to look at). In that price range I'd also suggest that you consider Jacoby.

I would agree with all who said here that you really need to go out somewhere and get the feel of these, or any cue, by playing with them.
I also would agree with this post in that I have owned and played with all of these cues, Mcdermott, Pechauer and Jacoby and always liked the Jacoby best. I am certain it has to do with weight and balance, joint, taper and ferrulle/tip combo. Once you have had the opportunity to play with a variety of different combinations, you will figure out which you are most comfortable with. David

Yes, I've found that Pechauer is much more
durable when hitting somebody in the head.

Right on mrlucky i feel the same way i've played with a micky d for 11yrs and in that time i've hit with other peoples custom cues and owned a motty for awhile but none could compare to the most solid hitting truest feeling manufactured cue in the universe mcdermott.

I have owned and played with both brands of cues for over a year each. They both have lifetime warranties including warpage. The main difference is that the taper on the Mcdermott is thinner. Some would say this makes it whimpy. The balance point on the Mcdermott is more to the rear than the Pechauer. Also the Pechauer is thicker at the joint and at the butt of the cue. The quality of the wood seems to be better on the Pechauer. It is a matter of personal preference.

Even for $350-400, you can still get a custom cue made to your specs (Shurtz customs start at $220).

I have owned and played daily with two different Pechauers. I like both, good quality at a reasonable price. One of my Pechauers has a stainlesssteel join the other wood to wood. Personally, I don't like stainless steel joints on any cue.

At the DCC last year I hit a few balls with a Shurtz. Bought it and have been playing with it ever since.

My Pechauers are nice, but I prefer the hit of the Shurtz. Should you follow my lead? Nope. All the cues you have mentioned are decent cues. You really need to just get out and hit balls with several different cues with different joints and make your own mind up. Nobody can tell you what cue is best for you.

Sadly, truth is, if you keep playing you will probably end up buying new cues every couple of years like the rest of us. ;)

I do realize I'll have to shoot with some cues and of course make the decision on my own but I also like to get the common knowledge here that I don't have. It put me off Meucci that's for sure, lol. Thanks again for all the help. I do think I might want to look more into a wood to wood joint, seems to be a popular choice.

I think Meucci has gotten a bad mouthing to be honest, I have one and it shoots like a champ with no signs of defecs or other problems. Don't let the masses tell you what's best for you, get what is most comfortable to you and what "feels right".

I would have to say if McDermotts made all thier shafts in 13mm i would go with them. But it seems the only ones from McD's that i like are over 1000$ lol

In my opinion, ( and I own both currently ) they are both good ,But pechaurs are much better feeling to me. both the butt and shaft tapers seem kind of strange on mcdermotts to me.

seems like many of you have had good experienceswith the folks at McDermott, i know two people who have had problems with McDermott.

a relative of mine ordered a cue for his friend and when it showed up there was a small knot in the shaft. he sent it back no problem to the dealer he bought it from, it just doesn't say much for their quality control.

another guy i know happens to be a high master level player. he has been playing with a McDermott for many years, and one of his shafts split running 2-3" below the ferrule. he sent it to Mcdermott and they wouldn't cover an obvious defect in materials... he then paid them to make him new shafts. he also received wood with knots. totally unacceptable, he sent them back at least a month ago. i still don't think they have been replaced.

I am currently splittimg time with my PS14 wrapless and Pete Diveney Sneaky- man I am having trouble deciding, they both play/feel very good. I sold my McD- just did not feel it like I did these other two..BTW I would also be playing with a Miranda, but I am trying to save it for investment purpose-bash it if u want but it is sweet.

How do you pronounce Pechaurs? Is it pech-our or pek-our? or ?

Pech-our!

I have owed and played with both cues. Both nice cues in my opinion. I would go with a Pechauer though. Played with a high end Pechauer for ten years until it was stolen. The cue hit great- I liked it better then my Schon and would call the hit between my Pechauer and Lambros a toss up.

That my friend is highly unusual

:) I have owned several McDermotts over 25 years now and never once had a problem with any and now with their unconditional guarantee I think anyone would be safe with one of their cues! link to their guarantee
