I want to see a Challenge of Champions 'Pentathalon of Pool' tournament.

Kept small, but competitive. Say, 16 players. Up to 8 invited, and 8 qualifying. Invitation would be based depending on if the player had 2
major wins in 2 of the games played.

They would play:

1) 8 ball
2) 9 ball
3) One Pocket
4) 14.1, or Straight Pool
5) Rotation

The winner should get $100,000, and it can be winner take all, or pay down, whichever was possible. The winner would be titled something
like 'All Around Champion of Pool' or something similiar.

It would be nice if the IPT could hold an event like this.
I think it would generate a lot of interest in the Pool world.

What do you think?

Yeah, i'm surprised no one has tried to do something like this yet.

However, I would take out 9 ball and rotation and combine those two into 10-ball. That would leave room for bank pool.

I agree about rotation, and replace with Bank Pool, but I understand your
leaning towards 10 ball, but I think with 9 being so played in all the tournaments, that it should be kept in.

It is interesting to think about the mix of players that could be included in such a tournament, and of course, everyone would be highly interested if Efren would win it or not.

I love the idea! They've done something like this in Australia I think, they had an event where they played snooker, english billiards, 9-ball & 8-ball. I believe Quinten Hann won it.
If they did have an all-around pool event with long races over a couple of weeks you'd really see the cream rise to the top. In my opinion there are only a few players that have a realistic possibility right now of winning the whole thing: Thorsten Hohmann, Efren Reyes, Nick Varner, Alex Pagulayan, Marlon Manalo, Ralf Souquet, Earl Strickland, Corey Deuel, Fong Pang-Chao, Maybe Wu?, Sigel for sure if he could get his game back.
You could have i where every player plays every other player in every game. Of course this would take a long time, a few weeks for sure. Each match a player wins he gets 1 point, and the winner is the one with the most points at the end. There'd be no doubt as to who's the best at the end of that!
Or even better would be to have an entire season like in baseball. It would be like Deuel plays Reyes for the next 3 days in New York, then he goes to Chicago and plays Archer, etc. Of course this is purely hypothetical but fun to imagine.

Sounds like fun and I'd probably buy a ticket to this event of yours, but.......

I feel that the Derby City Classic now stands as the event to determine the all-around champion of pool. This event is the closest thing we've had to the old Johnston City events, and even had a straight-pool challenge this year.

All hail the Derby City Classic as the true testing ground for all-around skills today!
