Peoria tournament

Hi everyone,

As you know I posted the first round matches for both Melissa and I in a different thread. Now I am back to report the days events....good and bad :)

First round was Melissa Morris from California. I started out playing pretty good and got myself a pretty good lead. I was ahead 7-3, then 7-4, then the rolls started changing. Suddenly Melissa made a comeback and I was facing a hill-hill match. 8-8 and it's her break...the nightmare situation. She comes up dry but I scratch trying to play safe. Melissa is running out perfectly but ended up getting out of line on the 9ball. I had a cross side bank to win the set. I think I closed my eyes when I shot it. I got lucky to escape that match.

Second round I had to face Romana Dokavic. She has been playing very well and things didn't change in this match. We were tied until it was 2-2. From there on out it was all hers. I believe she broke and ran out almost everytime it was her break. Everytime I broke I didn't make a ball and left everything wide open for her. I lost the match 9-2. What can you do when you are stuck in your seat and even when you get up the rolls just don't go your way?

So now I play friday at 6pm. The winner of a match between Janet Atwell and Maureen Seto. Hopefully I saved up all of my good rolls for the future match or matches!

Melissa has been playing well today. She won first round against Gina Kim-Lipsky 9-3 and then second round she beat Lisa Marr 9-3. She's playing good...everyone better watch out!

Take care everyone and hopefully I will get a chance to meet some of you this weekend.

Sarah

Sarah,
Best of luck in the rest of your matches. Hope you get your break working, & may all your rolls be good ones. Rootin' for you up here in Canada.
Steve

Well, another quick exit from a tournament. Tonight Maureen Seto beat me 9-8. It was a tough match. She played very well. It is very tough to lose those hill-hill matches but it has to happen every once in awhile.

Some good things did come out of the tournament though....

One, I got the pleasure of doing a documentary about professional athletes who get paid based on performance rather than a regular paycheck. It will be an article, video and photo gallery at ESPN.com in about a month or so. I will keep everyone updated.

Two, I got to meet some of the great pool lovers that post here. Wally in Cincy and his fiancee, Williebetmore, and DrCuesProtege were some of the new faces for me. I also got to see some old friends, longhair, crawdaddio and rukiddingme. It was a pleasure hanging out with all of you. I hope you enjoyed yourselves at the tournament and most importantly, thank you for your support.

Take care everyone
Sarah

Sarah,

Well i dont know what to tell you Sarah, but it seems like your on the brink of a major breakout. Cuz it seems that either you get totally blown out, in a match or its very close.

I have faith in you that your going to break out and win a tournament within the year.

:)

Hey question? have any of the pros gone to the Phenolic tip on thier break/ jump cues?

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your confidence and support. I hope your predictions come true.

To answer your question about the phenolic tip I would have to say almost all of the pros have gone to using that. Most of the jump cues come standard with a phenolic tip. It makes things so much easier. So easy in fact that it almost seems illegal! A smaller precentage of players are using the break cues with phenolic tips. It is hard to get used to how hard it is and takes longer to learn to control the cueball.

Thanks again and take care,
Sarah

hey sarah, i agree with stormhotrod, it is tough losing hill-hill, but i think those matches make us stronger and more detemined. so watch out, sarah is going to break out and tear it up. i also think it is great that you take time to meet folks from this forum. you are a true champion!!!!! john

Thank you John. I hope you and all the others here are right. I agree that close matches and tough losses make you stronger. I have had my fair share of hill-hill wins so it is only natural that I lose some as well. Watch out....soon the matches won't be so close! (at least I hope)

I would like to thank all of those from the AZ family that made it to the tournament...Wally in Cincy, Williebetmore, DrCuesProtege, Wayne, rukiddingme, longhair, crawdaddio and all others that I may have missed or that just lurk here. You are great fans, thank you for your support. It was a pleasure meeting all of you. I hope to see you again in the future.

Take care,
Sarah

Good going Sarah,That's one thing that I have always thought about this game.Always be a better loser than winner.I beleive if we have a positive attitude about losing, positive things will come to us.When we take our time and do our very best on every shot and we loose,it just wasnt meant to be but we still have to be positive about it! ;) Take care

Don't feel bad Sarah I've lost alot of those hill-hill heartbreakers (more than I've won ;) )

I believe you learn alot more in losing than you do in winning because your left to ponder your mistakes while your opponents focus becomes their next match, good luck in the future were all rootin for ya!

Ruben and sniper thank you for your kind words. Ruben don't get me wrong, I do get angry when I lose but I try to hold it in until I'm in my hotel room. So don't think I don't get upset.

Sniper, you are right, you learn alot from the close ones that you lose. I know that in my match against Maureen I made some costly mistakes at the end of the rack. Those mistakes I know made a difference. I know now that if I am not confident in the shot, don't take it. (Yes I know I should have known that before :)) I think it is very important to be able to recognize your mistakes and learn from them. There is always room for improvement.

Thank you all for your support. Take care.

Sarah:

It was good to meet you too..sorry I think I talked your ear off for a 1/2 hour...

Am sorry, I didn't get to see you play....btw...you let Mo beat you....for shame (laffing)....a Canadian....it was OK...Vivian...beat both Mo and Anita...

Will c u in Windsor...hope we have more time to chat....

keep hitting those balls.....bye for now...Wayne

Wayne,

No need to apologize for talking with me. I really enjoyed our conversation. I look forward to chatting again in Windsor.

Mo played good and I made some costly mistakes. She took advantage of mistakes better than I did. Thats the way it goes sometimes.

Thank you for your support, not just for myself, but for all of the players. It is much appreciated.

Take care,
Sarah

P.S. How long did it end up taking you to get home??

Sorry to hear about your quick exit Sarah.

I will still continue to pull for you no matter how you do as you are a class act.

Get 'em next time. Jerry

Hi Sarah:

Well we left Peria at 08:30 local time and got home at 10:30 that nite...

We spent an hour in Lawrence, Michigan...antiquing....and we got lost in Chatham, Ontario....looking for Kelseys restaurant....

But highway 24 from Toledo is by far the best for little towns and scenery..slowery but better....

Have you every matched up with Rachael Abbink?? If so, how did you do...

She and Larry Nevel were up in Toronto about a month ago...he is a very good play and wasn't afraid to help the local players with their games....

Rachael matched up with a local women player and found it a tough grind. The local women player doesn't want to be named...we will respect her wishes...

I'm out of here....keep hitting those balls..... c u in Windsor...

Hey Wayne. I drove 332 miles one way and I thought that was a lot :)

It was worth it though. We had a good time.

It was cool meeting you. I take it you also enjoyed your weekend? :D

Wayne,

Sounds like you had a great trip. I hope the weather was alright unlike in Peoria.

I have never matched up with Rachel Abbink. She and Larry have been all over the place. Larry is a good teacher. He truly loves the game so he is always doing something pool related...playing, trickshots, lessons, anything.

Hopefully the woman you are talking about will get a chance to play on the tour. I noticed that there is a new WPBA sanctioned tour in Canada.

I look forward to seeing you in Windsor.

Wally, I'm glad you had a good time and the trip was worth it.

jkjerry...thank you for your support. Hopefully next tournament there won't be any quick exits!

Take care,
Sarah
