What is the average percentage that a stakehorse takes when staking a top player? I'm talking about the biggest gamblers and money players, like Shane, Mike, Dennis, Scott, Oscar, Efren, etc? I'm not asking for opinions on what SHOULD be given back to backers - I'm asking those who KNOW for sure what they give to their stakehorses.

I would think that a fair percentage would be, if it were up to my, best guess, in the neighborhood of...

30-40% to the player is about average. Every deal is different though. Some stakehorses want a player to bet some of their own in a big match. Other guys put up all the money. So many variables its hard to give a firm answer but of the games I have been around 30-40% is pretty standard. This is for matches in the 10K and up range.

Generous stakehorses give the player back 50%. Unless the stakehorse is in the hole backing that player. Then the cut could go way down.

Tough way for a stakehorse to make money...always giving up some kind of money odds against someone who thinks they are an even money favorite.

That seems like a horrible way to make money.
I don't think anybody does it for the chief purpose of making money. If the odds are that good, the player would more than likely be betting as much of their own as they could.

I think F. Eddie took 50%.
But he also covered food, hotels etc. for Vincent and Carmen........:D

Kudos to Justin for his input. Honestly based on another question i asked I was thinking this would be nothing but a flame thread, yeah it's still early but still kudos to you justin

I don't back players for gambling matches (yet?). For tournaments it's usually
that I get the money I put up back first and then 30-50% of the remainder to the player.

I give 10-20% for a money match, which I do rarely as it's poor value for me and 50% after expenses for tournaments.

I give 50% and I eat the expenses. However, I really only head out with people I not only trust, but also like as people.

There are plenty of times the guy I was staking would give me some money knowing that we didn't do great, and I always appreciated that. Also, the little things like going in for gas and asking if you need anything etc.

Might have been 60-40.
Nice call! I think ur right. I wanted to check the diner scene again but was heading to work. Just going from memory.
Remembered most of it though! Ha
Not a bad deal when ur " not gonna lose" lol
