Perfect 8-Ball break?

Today in my league game my opponent broke off and potted 4 solids, nothing else. Someone made a joke and started a debate: In the unlikely event that you were to pot all solids on the break, are you allowed to pot the 8, or do you have to take the stripes?

Why would you have to pick stripes?? You would take the 8 ball and win I would think.
Depends how you are playing, some play you have to shoot what you made the most of on the break, others play it is your choice no matter what goes in.

I imagine though if you make all the solids and had to choose, just choose solid, since there are none left then shoot the 8 in.

We're playing normal WPA rules, and one of them partially reads:
4.9 Note: The table is always open immediately after the break shot. When the table is open, it is legal to hit any solid or stripe first in the process of pocketing the called stripe or solid. However, when the table is open and the 8-ball is the first ball contacted, it is a foul and no stripe or solid may be scored in favor of the shooter.

my best 8 ball break.

It was on a bar box that me and a buddy of mine had set up as a demonstration at University of Redlands. I broke and pocketed five stripes and nothing else. Needless to say I ran out that rack.

I guess in that case the player must shoot the striped ball, but the rules should be changed slightly in case this extreme does happen.
