Some weird stuff. A lot of players not on the list for Hanoi are listed for Peri. The Kaci and Ko brothers, Ouschan, Oi, Fogel, He. That's just a few.

I am very curious to see where everyone plays in the next few weeks.

I get a sense of some dissatisfaction with WNT. Some players more closely aligned with WNT last year appear to have declared themselves free agents of sorts.

Whatever the case, Predator says it's planning more big events for next year. Bit of an arm's race going on between WPA/Predator and WNT. Good for the players - if the dates for big events don't clash too much.

of course, peri is good money. one of the highest paying WNT satellite events. it's not much more complicated than that, and if MR wants hanoi to be the bigger draw they should up the prize money more than what they have. i will watch it either way, it's a great event, but i don't blame players going for the chance of 75k and a WC title

This pretty well encapsulates where things stand.

Still, 2025 may be an outlier. If Matchroom and WNT have truly reconciled, they can do what it takes in 2026 to avoid (at least most of) the scheduling conflicts that have caused problems this year. If that happens, the pro players will be in a position to play all (or nearly all) of the major events on pool's calendar and that's where we'd like to see things settle.

WNT has vowed not to punish WNT players for participation in WNT events, not even those that coincide with WPA Predator events. If Matchroom, similarly, takes the path of least resistance, opting not to punish those playing in a WPA Predator event that coincides with a WNT event, the stage will be set for players to earn more than they ever have before at their profession. If, on the other hand, Matchroom takes firm, decisive action against those skipping the odd Matchroom event (yes, I know Shane and Josh both missed two WNT majors this year), then we'll know that the WNT/WPA reconciliation is merely a mirage.

It's time for Matchroom to do the right thing here, and I believe they will.

There is one big complication. Matchroom supposedly has a rule or bylaw that players have to play in a prescribed number of big majors to be eligible for Reyes/Mosconi and other invitationals. One version says just WPC-US Open-Hanoi, another says all big WNT majors absent an excuse (injury, etc)

This rule exists no where on the Internet. A Matchroom-affiliated person on a WNT Facebook page has been cited as a source, but again, I can't find it. Mike on Dogginit has also been saying for months that players have been made aware of this by Matchroom.

If it is true such a rule exists, MR either has to change it soon, or abide by its own rules. As such, players such as SVB, Filler, the Kaci brothers and the Ko brothers would be excluded from consideration on Reyes/Mosconi.

Personally, I think it would be a bad thing for WNT/MR to go down this road. But they may have boxed themselves in.

We may already be seeing some residue of this. Mike on Dogginit claims Biado was likely pressured to play in Hanoi instead of the WPA/Predator World 8-ball tournament in Bali at the same time to keep his spot on the Reyes. No one has confirmed this.

Biado has won the World 9 ball and 10 ball titles. He would become the only pool player ever to win World 8, 9 and 10 ball titles if he were to play at Bali this year and win. And yet, he is skipping Bali, even though he is sponsored by Predator.

SVB, by the way, has won 8-ball and 9-ball World titles. He played in the World 10-ball tourney, and is skipping Peri/Hanoi, to try to achieve the same goal Biado may have had a chance to accomplish this year. SVB came darn close.

is that mike panozzo? if so there's some credibility. that other guy named mike has some ground to cover for me to consider him a credible source. in the end MR, like the players, focus on the bottom line. and if you follow that rationale, putting up a weak field in the mosconi is bad business

I can't recall if Panozzo himself has said so, but he's not disagreed with the other Mike or argued otherwise.

I agree. Yet Panozzo said he thinks SVB will be left off the Mosconi for skipping Hanoi. I think he said the same about Filler too. He admitted not having any direct info, but he seemed fairly convinced.

What bugs me about the current situation is that Predator and Matchroom aren’t even talking directly to each other.

DogginIt interviewed the director of the Predator Pro Billiard Series the other day. The director indicated they use the WPA as an intermediary on scheduling. When asked how the WPA is doing, he laughed.

I get it. Both WNT and Predator are ramping up their tours and vying to become the big dog. They are both staking out calendar dates and locking in the best times. Predator plans to introduce even more big events next year.

If so, there’s bound to be some big scheduling conflicts absent more communication. That’s not good for the players, or WNT and Predator, either. Neither side will always get the best fields they can.

These are grown people running these companies. And yet they seem to be acting like children when it comes to communicating with each other. Whose more at fault? Who knows.

Now the truth is, both sides appear to have tried not to step on each other’s toes. So far.

Predator has not scheduled anything big around the time of the WPC, US Open or Mosconi, for instance.

WNT has left bare the last three weeks of December through the first three and a half months of each new year.

There is room for both tours, but at some point, there has got to be communication.

Take Vietnam. Both entities want to go big there. Predator seems to have settled on the last two weeks of September to hold a big event in Vietnam.

Then Matchroom uses the first two weeks of October for Peri/Hanoi. They have done that now three years in a row.

It would have worked out great if Bali wasn’t scheduled at the same time as Hanoi. Then players could have spent weeks in the same country playing in three big events.

The Predator director simply said it takes a long time to set up these tournaments, implying the date conflict couldn’t be helped.

Of course, WNT has also tried to monopolize October and that was bound to be an issue. It’s a great month for tournaments.

If the WNT got its way, Peri, Hanoi, the Philippines Open and the Reyes Cup would take up all of October. Doubt Predator will accede to that.

We’ll see how the scheduling conflicts play out over the next year.

Matchroom must do what they think is right, but until WPA/Predator and Matchroom make some attempt to work together with regard to shaping the world pool calendar, I fear that we will have to settle for suboptimal fields at the majors too often, and that would be a shame.

svb off the mosconi would maybe be a good thing for your side. but i don't think he'll be excluded

Probably a mistake on Gerson.

Odd streaming on this event. One table without commentary on Matchroom. Some Vietnamese streams floating around. And players not on table one are being allowed to send out video of their own matches.

Strange, especially since the Peri actually has a notably stronger field than Hanoi.

Most of the Chinese/Chinese Taipei games are being streamed to Douyin, WeChat etc

Who knew “rule or bylaw” meant the same thing as extortion?

FYI: Bustamante and Jeremy Jones have been named the non-playing captains of the Asia and World teams

EDITED to correct World Team, not European team.
