According to projections by the end of May, pretty much all of America, and much of the rest of the world, will be at or near the end of the covid-19 related deaths from this initial wave.

I'm wondering what measures, if any, do you plan to use to try and stay safe when returning to our community pool rooms. I expect that the rooms will have some sort of social distancing guidelines but what about us as individuals?

Are you planning on doing anything above and beyond what the pool rooms do in an effort to stay safe?

Sanitation of the tables between customers is going to need to happen. Even with that there will be people like myself with an immune system issue that might not want to chance it.

I went to my pool room last night and picked up a pan of a 1/2 pound shrimp, 1/2 pound crab legs, corn, potatoes and sausage for $20.00.

While I was waiting, I was drinking a beer and I looked over and the door to the pool table was off and laying on the floor. I wanted sooo badly to go over and shoot a few balls but I didn't know if the sticks, balls etc..had been cleaned, I didn't know who had previously been playing on it.

It was just weird. Not sure what I'm going to do

For the next few months...staying home. I have a home table and the COVID don't care what month it is or what the government says.

Robin,

During the BCAPL event this March, when I arrived the referees were wiping the tables down between matches with Clorox wipes. Asked one ref if they were going to wipe the balls down as well! You had to see the look on his face. Doing one without the other was a waste of money and time!

Other than not going in one? Probably not. A few games of pool ain't worth the risk for me.

Because my wife has serious progressive lung disease issues she's asked me not to go to a pool room until the threat of this virus transmission has been essentially eliminated by vaccination I'll certainly comply with her wishes. Mitch

Exactly Lyn,
I'm looking to rent a space with a lease right now to bring a table in for the first time in my life. It's cheaper for me to rent a spot than build onto the house and I don't want to junk up my property with a building over and above my outbuilding. There will always be Pool but its going to move home in a lot of cases. Clorox wipes probably didn't do the trick by the way. I wouldn't played on it. I've looked into that thing pretty deep. If you aren't spraying on clorox water at 2400ppm then you might can use other spray ons or quaternary ammonia solutions at 200ppm. The balls also have to get it. Sprayed and let dry before wiping them down with a dry rag. The problem with the tables is the particles kicked up and your face is right down there on the cloth. I'm not one to tell folks what to do but I know my family comes first.

Hoping to get out and hit some balls soon.

My plan is to take my own set of balls and wipe down the table myself. There are times earlier in the day when were are fewer customers so I plan on going then. Lastly, I keep some disinfecting wipes in the trunk of my car and will use those on my hands before driving home.

Same as always. Play, order lunch, wash the chalk off my hands before I eat and play some more.
We have always social distanced out of respect for the player down on the shot.

I see no modification to my routine

I really think the BCA in conjunction with the cloth manufacturers should issue a protocol because a lot is at stake.

For the next few months...staying home. I have a home table and the COVID don't care what month it is or what the government says.

Why?

I work retail and have 100s of people go by me daily and we aren’t getting sick at some high level. The numbers and statistics show this is nonsense.. I’ll be going out asap

Ditto.

My GC1 is being installed Wednesday so I don't plan to hit up a room anytime soon. It's not just pool...like many, have a wait-and-see perspective on progress (or not) for a couple months. I am not a fan over the over-reaction and in many cases find the "experts" predictions to this point horrific and sad.

But there is a virus, it is contagious, and there's too much unknown without a vaccine to flirt too hard with getting it.

Shoot pool, go fishin', grill meat, make love. Just like most years.

Yep. Pretty much this...

Does your 'ol lady know your priority list?? I totally get it bro. ;)

Great thread. As noted, social distancing can, and should be observed during a pool match. No hand shakes or high fives should be exchanged.

As Robin noted, cleaning the balls and tables between customers will make a big difference. I also suspect that the rack, the bridge, and if you use one, the house cue will all present a potential threat. Use new chalk where possible. Carry disinfectant wipes with you when you go to the pool hall, and after putting on some disposable latex gloves, wipe all of these down before using them. Then. as long as you are comfortable with it, remove the gloves, as it's probably not desirable to wear them during the play.

I think it would be a good idea for someone like WPA, BCA, or even APA, to establish and publish recommendations for mitigation of the Corona related risks associated with playing pool, recommendations that could be posted at the front desk of every poolroom.

Nice to hear that most are thinking about all this.

Wow, that means that you sit in a place that can never be within six feet of your opponent and are never within six feet of someone shooting on an adjacent table. You are lucky to have the tables in your poolroom spaced well enough to make that possible, Can't be done where I play. Sounds like you have a very good habit here. Stay the course!

Thank you.

I am fortunate, but do travel 25 miles one way for one room and once a month 425 miles one way for the other. Both are players rooms. Both worth the effort.
