Petersen or Palmer or ?

This was my father's cue.. I can't remember what he said it was exactly as it was quite a few years ago.. it has been in my closet for 14 years.. it's beat up .. he lived and played in Jasper Al.. and in Phoenix for years and the stick has just about every cosmetic ding you could get on one and it still be in excellent mechanical condition.. i removed the rubber on the butt and it had a very large machined screw about 2 inches long in the end of the handle.. I think the butt cap is ivory in the way it has chipped a bit.. there is no shaft with it as you can see the upper joint that had the shaft on it was broken.. those seem to be the type of joints that petersen used.. and I believe those are rosewood points.. maybe circa 1980.. ?? any help identifying this cue would appreciated! Thanks.. JDWilson

If any other views or closeups would help.. I can provide pretty quick..

Neither imho....you probably have something along the lines of an early 1980s Helmstetter. Prong seems to give it away. Maybe some of the knowledgable collectors of those cues will chime in here and post their thoughts.

I can't find a reference for it anywhere.. guess I'll put it back in the closet.. I don't play pool.. used to.. I'm not going to sell it until I am certain of what it is.. maybe when bruin70 returns from vacation he might have some insight.. I couldn't find any helmstetter that resembled any aspect of it though.. doesnt mean there aren't some that this looks like.. I just haven't found it yet.. Maybe I'll get a blue book for christmas... or a pool table lol...
I will post some pic's soon of my father inlaws pre 1900 brunswick pool table.. he's had that completely restored perfect.. and has had that thing the whole 24 years I have known him.. I play on it occasionally.. reverence of it all is chilling.. I grew up in New Smyrna Beach.. and moved to Portland and back to Tennessee where I was born..

Sounds like a killer table. The cue is guaranteed not to be a Petersen. I have several of Craig's cues and it's not his work. Milt will confirm that too. Have all three BBs and they probably won't help much with this one. The prong is imported, much like those used in the adams, helm., and palmers of the 80s. Helmstetter did a similar designed cue but the butt windows were slightly different. Might also be a national or brunswick.

What part of TN you from ?? I'm here in Chattanooga.

I live in near Jackson, TN now.. due to my wifes work and hometown.. dang flu and cold has got me down and I'm not as bright as I usually am lol..

The cue is certainly a Helmstetter from the 1980's. The design, the shape of the pin, the points and the cues butt and bumper all scream Helmstetter. The rounded end on the pin, the Veneer's in the points and the butt design which was used on many series of Helmstetter cues from the 80's into the 90's.

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm wondering what it is worth.. I am in a great need of cash and have been scrambling for the last couple weeks to gather some.. should I refinish it or not.. I put it on ebay (as I have a woodcraftoys store there) when I thought it was a Palmer.. I had plenty of action on it but 5 people had questions of doubt that it was a Palmer and I pulled it back off until I could find out what it was.. I know lottsa gents here don't look favorable towards ebay sells of cues.. but I sell lots of other stuff all the time and that is the easiest available I know of to sell something for the most money.. exposure wise.. Thanks for all your help! It is greatly appreciated.. truely.
