Great............................. I voted

I think you should definitely ban tobacco, smoking anything else should be allowed. :D

Smoking Ban

I vote to ban smoking, but would be willing to accept a compromise. Split room?

One day your state will ban smoking and you'll see what a blessing it is to the non-smokers.

If a smoker and non-smoker are matched up at the tournament where do they play??? in the healthy room or the addicted persons room??

Many counties in my state have restricted smoking. It’s mainly anywhere minors are like pool halls and anywhere food is served. Smoking is still permitted in bars. But its getting better a new state tax is comming to help supplement health care.

APA has been know as the Cancer league they wouldn't want to change thier reputation

why not ban alcohol too?? alcohol kills just as much as smoking..

Hey they should just ban fried food too. Many people die from eating that stuff. Heart attacks and clogged arteries ya know....

Well maybe they should ban drinking, but fried food only effect the person eating it (other than the family membersd feeling), smoke always effect the non-smoker. I feel that you should be allowed to smoke when ever you want, but I should never be forced to smoke. If you are smoking in my general area, you are forcing me to smoke as far as I see it. Now I'm not saying that you should have to leave the area with your smoking, but I shouldn't be forced into breathing it if I don't want to. So I think places should have smoking areas that the non-smoker would have to be a real A--hole to go into.

I hope you all luck with your heath.

Even though I would probably vote against this petition, as a private organization/business I would support their right to petition their members and make whatever decision they want.

If I didn't like it, I wouldn't play.

What I am against is governments telling private property owners what they can do in their own places.

As a pool player with health issues (heart attack/multiple bypass), I would really love for there to be a smoke free atmosphere. I play on 3 league teams, one is non-smoking (there is a smoking area provided). It is great, and the smokers don't SEEM to mind. All I can tell you is that I LOVE to play pool, and am going to do so whether it is in a smoke-free area or not. I would be able to breathe much better and probably play better in the smoke-free environment. My cardiologist has advised me against hanging out in the smoker's environment, but I have not listened.

But drinking doesn't affect the people around you.

Besides causing cancer, excessive inhalation of cigarette smoke contributes to anthracosis, the accumulation of carbon particles in your lungs, and the damage is irreparable.

Second-hand smoke also leads to greater chances of children becoming asthmatic and may cause SIDS in babies.

Remember The Camel Tour?

Tobacco Corporations are looking for venues to advertise their products.

Pool desperately needs sponsors.

If Philip Morris, USA decided to sponsor a $100,000.00 first class pool tournament, we all would be encouraging and applauding their interest.

(IMHO) - Pool is not at a point where we can be selective with ANY sponsors.

Members of a private organization are petitioning that organization to ban smoking at it's events. If that organization deems it is in their best interest or the best interest of it's members to institute such a ban that is fine.
They are not asking that the government ban smoking in all bars etc., that is an entirely different philosophical issue.
BTW, I don't think statistics will bear out you're contention that alcohol kills just as much as smoking.
I believe a private business owner should have the right to choose whether his business will or will not allow smoking, but please don't make the contention that second hand smoke is harmless. It's not as harmful as first hand smoke, but it is harmful.

I would have to agree with you Marissa, I think the smoking should be restricted to the hallway and practice rooms like it is in the BCA Nationals. If the ventilation were better in the tournament rooms it would not be such a problem but right now I would have to vote for no smoking!

I was being sarcastic.

My health is fine, thanks.

Maybe ...

We should all have a personality test before
entering the big room. People die all the time
from someone with a personality disorder....

Second hand smoke is a theory as to its harmful
effects, not a fact...

You are an idiot! People get cancer from second hand smoke. Trust me, I know firsthand.

During autopsy, carbon exposure is determined by measuring the severity of anthracosis, and the amount of carbon particles is greater in smokers and those who are exposed to secondhand smoke.
