Hey guys. Has anyone tried out the PFM ferrules Prather is selling as a replacement for fiber ferrules? I need to pick some ferrule material up for house cues, and wondering about it.

Have it ordered but no gots yet. if it is like their other products I am sure it will be a fine sub.

Yes, I was planning on ordering some titan from atlas. I wanted to know if anyone had any info on the pfm material for comparison and to have another option.

Kelly,
I would not install Titan material on house cues if you plan to break with them. They are not made for impact from breaking and will crack in my experience. The MPI that Atlas sells are impact resistant and great for that application IMO.

Thanks for the advice Jim. I wish MPI came in solid rod, or 1/16" ID tube. The "house cues" I will be maintaining are relatively cheap 2 piece cues epoxied together. The ferrules are capped and threaded, and I would prefer to keep them that way.

You can get Porper ferrules from Muellers for $4.75/3 or $37.50/50.

We also have a new ferrule called Topec that we designed for house cues. $1.95/3 or $12.50/50. (not online yet but in the catalog.)

The Porper ferrules are capped/threaded and the Topec are 5/16" uncapped.
 
You wont go wrong with the Porper ferrules. I have been using them for years on house cues and I have not had one to come apart yet. I use epoxy for the ferrule and gorilla glue for the tips.
Has been working good for me.

You should try the Topek. They are super strong and have a 5/16" through hole. We've been working on the formula for about a year and a half.

Can you send me some to try. I have one pool hall that they scrape the eyeballs up at the end of the night. This is the place I test drive new equipment. If it will make it in this place it will live forever anywhere else.
Old Valley tables with the old big q-ball. This is where I first used the Porper ferrules 3 years ago and the cues that are not broken in fights are still going strong.
We call the place sluggers. Where you can go to the fights and every once in a while a pool game will break out.
 
I did many cues with Titan without a crack. As a matter of fact a titlist conversion I made and 4 years ago I did Titan. He broke with it Everytime. Heavy bar ball and all. For years never a break. I have a Titan ferrule now on my player and I break with it. No problem. I break hard too
 
I got some of the old Aegis from Atlas. They had some of the old stock that was full of trash. No matter what the ferrules would end up with lots of dark specks. Since it was in tube form and the material is extremely durable then it was perfect for housecues...plus they sold it really cheap as well (of course this was years ago too).:wink:

I recently replaced half a dozen house cue ferrules with Topek. Love them.
