PGA Player Mic'd Up/Pool Why Not?

I would love to see a heart rate monitor too.

You can then tell which players are the most nervousm

Imagine seeing Tyler's heart rate in the Mosconi.

Pro player, after his tee shot is walking thru the fairway and talking about the shot, he just hit or what he's thinking about as he walks.
A caddy talking to a player before shot execution and getting his players feed back.
A player that CHOSE to be mic'd to give viewers their mindset for their current situation.

I need clarity. I’ve watched many many matches where the the players were mic’d up. It was always a challenge as the microphone, which was often clipped to the shirt, would get rubbed by the cue stick.

Is it a certain discussion you want to hear from the player like make them do self commentary?

All of these were player-mic’d as were several throughout the 90’s. Some of the players were naturally going to speak more (e.g. Mataya, Sigel). There are many more examples on youtube for sure.

35 yrs ago is quite different than 2026.

It’s why I asked for clarity on your question. Are you saying yes of course we we’ve had players with microphones and have plenty of past matches to leverage to learn to do it better? Is that what you’re asking cause that didn’t sound like you’re asking that’s why I’m asking for clarity.

They did that at least at one tournament. I was surprised how high some heart rates went. It would be interesting to see that again, too.

While we’re at it; let’s see a speed gun, floating cameras (like NFL) and better telestrators. And whatever happened to the ring girls????

No....
Copy/paste OP....
'' I'd truly enjoy hearing what Gorst/or any great player, what he's saying to himself when he choses some of his shots.''

yes yes yes, made watching fun.

I love seeing how hard they have to stroke on every shot.
Not sure the sponser was real happy they were had mics on. Rempe was not happy with the big rubber like logo in the middle of the table, thought it had screwed him on position a couple times. So mics may not always be a good thing.

i like players being miced up. it should be required in most all sports. as sports figures are really high paid entertainers. they make money only because of there being an audience. take away the audience and all sports go away.
and the audience is entitled to have the full experience and they can learn to speak civilly.

no need to mike individual players in pool. the area around the table is so small that a good area/shotgun mike would catch pretty much everything. Its not like golf in ANY way, there you have wide open spaces with up to hundreds of yds. between players. you pretty much have to have individual mikes in golf.

I think the heart rate monitor was the tournament in Romania?

They have ring girls at the Chinese 9b tournaments (at least some of them). I think they only come out when there is a break and run or a table run.

I like the idea of shotgun mikes better than individual mikes. I remember them putting mikes on the player's chests. People would chalk near the mike and it would sound like you were driving through a heavy construction area.

To mike people up I think they need to talk to each other too. Unless a player is obviously sharking or when a player is bending over to shoot, let them talk. Keith is loud enough he doesn't need a mike. His old matches are still favorites. Some of the greatest pool on TV was the "Legends" events and Mosconi and Fats matches with just them alone. The talking and interaction made the matches. My favorite match lifetime we were laughing and talking the whole match. The opposite was fifteen games with Johnny Archer. I won but I can't remember saying a word to each other the entire time, certainly not a joke or laugh.

There is another thread that has degenerated into what is wrong with pool. From a business standpoint what is wrong with pool is that it isn't fun for the most part and people go out to have fun! When I was young, big, and hairy, I often butted into games, usually people I knew but sometimes strangers too. Some moron would have a girl out on a date and instead of showing her a good time the boy would be showing her how great he was at pool and not offering her any advice or help. The first time or one of the first times the girl had played she would be lost with an unhappy face for a long time. Ambling over and putting my finger on the table and just telling the girl to hit my finger soft, medium, or hard would have her making balls, even stringing some since she was unknowingly playing shape.

To make pool thrive or even survive, we need people, including spectators, to enjoy it. Another fun match was a Legends match between Fats and UJ Puckett. If they weren't talking to each other, they were talking to the crowd about each other!
