Thanks John
I did not think a offer of 300.00 for a Scruggs sneaky that needs a refinish was out of line seeing a refinish goes for between 100.00-150.00 to get one resprayed .Then you might break even on it.JMO
Good luck with your sales

As I said..right in the ball park...

I guess my problem is I don't know why I shouldn't laugh when I got offers Hundreds of dollars higher. I'm not yet desperate enough to go into the business of providing cue dealers with 40% discounts so they can make a buck.

Tank - sorry if it was inappropriate to post that here. No harm intended.

I don't doubt that as I just sold one in the 550.00 range. But that's a direct sale. This is the other problem I see with "make an offer" posts, now even though it wasn't intended, it happened, and you bought it here. Tank is stand up and I believe his offer was in good faith. You can laugh about it, but bringing it here ain't the best thing to do. I don't even want to get into the last time someone thought a dealer was lowballing... :D

You may not be in that business, but sometimes they have the money when you need to sell quick. But dealers have to make money to and they will offer accordingly.

I think what I have learned is that most the people who post cues here are looking for the same money I would want to get if I was selling it. Believe me, I don't think I made offers on 5 cues posted here in 5 years.

Thanks for the kind words Joe:)

People have to remember a offer is a starting point for negotiations, But then I guess it takes two people to negotiate.

Maybe I am just pricing my cues too low .Maybe that is why I have sold 4 cue & 4 cases in the last two days:D
So you better get your cues from me before the prices go up

Like I said before good luck with the sales.

that second Phillipi in the Ebay post looks much nicer and also appears to hav a little more work.the silver work usually takes a little time i think.i would have to agree that the TS sneakies usually bring more than $300 even in need of a refinish.

Ok guys - I have been away from the market for a while now, so help me understand here.

Speculation is this cue went somewhere in the 9s:

Pretty cue, but no where near the point work that is in mine, and about the same amount of ivory.

This one went at 1300:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MESE:IT&viewitem=&item=270144292804&rd=1&rd=1

More ivory, but again, not even close on the point work.

What is it exactly that puts my cue at a 15-40% discount to these? Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to put a fair price on this thing.

Both cues referenced here are much fancier, with better designs. The big dice are too overpowering imo and the overall impression I get when thinking about comparing the designs in the three cues is that it looks 'clumsy' whereas the other two are much more refined. The maple/ebony reversed "mirror' effect in the points is unique and reminds me of work that Ernie Martinez was known for doing about 7-10 years ago. That is the neatest things about the cue imo. I would think $700-$800 might be a good resale number....or at least that's what I would expect to get for it in today's market.

Phillippi cues have just never had high resale value in the secondary market....and it seems to have been worse in the last few years since there are so many other options to buy in the price range. Shame, too, because they have always done superb work and been known to build some of the best made cues for a long time !!

I would say that $1200 is about right if you are a dealer. You have to stock it, insure it, deal with the headaches and trade ins. An individual just wanting to sell it I would say $900-1000 is more like the going price.

Nice cue...but theme cues are long wait times to sell usually. No matter how nice they are. I had a beautiful Jacoby with Ivory Club, Diamond, Spade, Hearts in it and rarely ever showed it to anyone. I dont even LIKE cards and I loved the cue. So...you never know. Good luck in the sale. Hope you do well.
