One of the largest Pool Room in Arizona is Phoenix Six Shooters apparently out of business as of this past monday. Friend call me yesterday, and said there was a sign on the door Monday saying they were closed.

The other six Shooter in Tempe that became (Scoreboards) apparently shut down last month due to a SINK HOLE in the Floor measuring over 20 foot at it wide spot.

That's sad news. We just conducted a Pool School there last month.....SPF=randyg

Well that sucks. I did not go there often but I have been there a few times lately. Lots of tables in there.

I hate to say it, but I am surprised it lasted this long.

For whatever reason that place never seemed to develop any pool room ambiance.

There were some locals that went there...probably just out of total convenience. I never saw a reason to go there....especially with Alexanders or Metro right down the street....As bad as the tables are at Metro, they were still better than Sixshooters.

It is probably just me...but whenever I was in that place, I felt like I was in a Peter Piper Pizza that just happened to have a bunch of pool tables.

Well I know Mike H's (AZHousePro) Chuck P. use to do a Saturday Monthly Tournament there that was not real well attended. It was canceled about a year ago as I understood six Shooter did not want to put money into Pool.

As someone else said it was in the middle of Metro, and Alexanders, and that is a bad place to be.

It could have been a nice room. But the owners never wanted to put any money towards pool. (Didn't want to put much towards air conditioning either).

I had an all around stop scheduled there last year and the owners called a couple of months before the event and wanted to complain about the added money. I explained that there was another room (Kolby's in Tempe) that would be glad to take the event and that was the end of the discussion.

They did do big things with DARTS.

I'd agree with the above sentiment.

Six shooters was relatively close to where I lived. I played there two times and had no desire to return.

I just heard that they changed owners and were going to be shutdown for a few days/weeks to do all the change over. Not sure if this is true or not.

Could have been a great hall with a little work.

Food sucked!

Yeah that's the dilemna with Six Shooters...

It's a billiards emporium, but all the amenities $u(ked!!
AC, Food, bathrooms, Food, AC, ..., Food

It's the desert! When you got no AC, that's a problem. When it happens for not only 1 summer, but for multiple consecutive summers in a row, ... (knock on head.. uh hello... is anyone listening...).

When I had called down there to simply let them know that Scott Lee might be interested in hosting a lesson/seminar at their location potentially, the initial response from Six Shooters was downright rude. Luckily, I relayed the info to Scott and he must've used his charm to get a much more positive result.

Not really complaining here... OK... Actually yeah I'm definitely complaining. The previous ownership were jerks, and they still were able to make a mint on that place for a long time...

Just hoping that new ownership would have a better committment to pool players and their customers in general. When that place is running right, it's great! The potential is definitely there, just a matter of being able to regain it.

Oh and just to cut off a potential response, I've run a pool hall before, so I understand the issue that some pool halls have regarding pool players expecting the world and barely contributing themselves. The mid-level pool players (above bangers, but not necessarily top players in the area) treated that place well... Like I said, the place made a mint for a long while...

Holy Smokeless Poolrooms, Batman!!! 11 posts and no one has blamed the indoor smoking ban yet! ;)

Yeah, that thing with the darts ... I don't know. Apparently they made a bunch of money off the dart tournaments. At least, that is what the original manager told my wife. I'm not sure if the original owners have owned it this entire time, but it seemed to have gone downhill since it first opened, fwiw.

I have been told that Dart Players drink more Beer than Pool Player so maybe that is why Six Shooter catered more to Darts.

Almost missed my chance!

Blaming smoking ban!!!!!!!(and poor management) I don't know what the lease was per sq. ft., but
I know they only used about half of what they had.

The Real Problem

I've played there for two years. Tres Kane left because they never knew how to treat pool players. Terry got fed up too, and played less and less there. I left and so did some of my friends. I've been back there maybe 3 times in 6 months, where before I used to go 4-5 days a week.
The problem was the owner. He was a dick, never renovated anything. The bathrooms were for employees of a fabric shop that used to be in the space, not for a huge poolroom. The two stalls both had nasty toilets, only 1 door worked, one was missing, the 3 pissers usually were out of order except for maybe 1 of them which seemed to work but never really flush. It was always yellow and stinky. My girlfriend told me the women's was a lot worse. The carpet was ripped everywhere, and everyone tripped on it. They used duck tape to repair it. They never cleaned the tables often enough, never cleaned their mugs properly, the food was bad, and the worst thing of all was the service. I got into arguments with like 3 servers and 1 manager. They wouldn't buy chalk, then when they had it they wouldn't let people use it. Some of the girls were druggies who worked there, and the others just behaved like high school kids. The day guy was so slow at the bar it took 10 minutes to get a beer, and there were only 5 customers in the entire place. The owner accused the manager of stealing money and trying to railroad him, and I knew the manager J.R. personally, and he was a stand up guy. His hands were tied whenever he tried to help the pool players out because the owner restricted everything. The place sucked so bad toward the end. They never replaced any cushions during the 9 years it was open, and the tables were second-hand tables from the Golden 8-ball. They had the cheapest company re-felt the tables and none of them played well, except for 27. That place was a blueprint for how not to run a pool hall.

Does anyone play at the Lucky Cue on Mcdowell in Phoenix? I play three cushion there once in a while.Any comments?

The practice palace won't be missed..I'm glad i didn't have to explain what went wrong..It would take too long..Miserable owners who defied any kind of logic..Terrible barkeep(Tina).. when they actually sought out advice they always asked the wrong person (table 26) the veteran asleep at the stoplight..It couldn't help but go wrong .. I'm amazed that it lasted this long..That's why it would prosper under a new owner!

Who the hell do u think u are?!

Hey, a$$hole, who do you think you are? How dare you sit there and talk smack about Six Shooters and table 26? Why, I outta kick your a$$! I was a sniper in Nam! I beat Ronnie Allen, Max Eberle, and threatened to kill any road player who went in there! I beat them all though, before I threatened to kill them. I got a gun in my car if you don't believe me. What kind of name is "trainer"? What's your name? Jerry, Larry, Jimmy?

Is Main Street Billiards in Mesa still open? That used to be a very good pool room and I heard the owner put in some great tables for action. Any info would be much appreciated

I feel you have to take your own life into your hands to go in there. Real seedy area and the last time I was there, they had duct tape on the tables.
