Has anyone heard of people using piano laquer to finish cues ? Was wondering about cue time ? I know that it will leave a glass like finish. Just curious about durability and cue time . Also has anyone had their pins anodized or powder coated to match the cue I have thought about this and think it would be a nice touch. Any input is appreciated.
 
I can't really see how you can powder coat a pin because of the generally tight tolerances that are used when shaft and pin are screwed together...... Although I'm not too familiar with powder coating I would assume it changes the overall size of the pin, and threads as well

Yes I anodize aluminum pins for my cues, if you don't the aluminum will oxidize and look like crap after a while. Having said that if you do use a anodized pin you should have a soft insert on the shaft side. Wood threads or what I like to use, a phenolic insert, if you use brass the brass will wear off the anodizing.

Most likely piano lacquer is nitro celulose lacquer....... I have used automotive acrylic lacquer and it works nice.

Piano lacquer

I've done a few restorations with nitro lac. Lots of coats and lots of drying time.
Need a good spark proof environment. Very slow build. I see no advantage to it, except to be period correct.
