Picture of my uncle playing Jimmy Moore

This is a picture (probably taken in the late 1960s) I have of my uncle, Jeff Vallen, playing an (looks like straight pool) exhibition against Jimmy Moore.

My uncle was a professional, 250 ball runner, from Miami, Florida. He also lived in Key West, Florida and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the Air Force in the late 60s and won the armed forces championship. His prize was to leave vietnam for 2 of his 3 year enlistment and travel the world representing the armed forces in international pool tournaments. He died in 2000. Sadly I dont know much more about his pool playing and this is the only photo I have of him playing pool.

Nice picture. Start making phone calls to relatives now to get as much information as you can, trust me, they'll be gone before you know it.

Also, contact the Air Force. If you do not get info, contact your congresspersons and enlist their help with the AF. The AF should have a file on your uncle, including pool, and they never throw anything away, but they might have difficulty finding it.

Having more info on your uncles pool playing life would be good. Having that picture and the knowledge that he was upper tier is worth much more.
Thanks for sharing this photo.

Thanks for that! He must have been a monster player with that run back then. he lived in some pretty sporty places - he must have played Diliberto quite bit if he was in Miami during that time- Congress billiards downtown- it survived until about 2000.

I did not know the service had sponsored billiards- my oldest brother and some of my cousins were all in Nam together 65-67 and they hustled pool in Saigon quite a bit during their service years.
