Picture Sharing/Posting: Round 2

I have a slightly different question than FAST_N_LOOSE's original post.

I see a ton of "Let's see your XXX cues!" or "Let's see some Full Splices!". You can search the message board for certain builders but any out dated posts will no longer have the images. So in response, you see the same pictures posted as you saw last time some one asked to see these pics.

Wouldn't it be easier if there were some website devoted to keeping track of the old pictures?

I'd like to create a website that backs up all of the cue images posted to AZ. Then you could just search this Cue Database page for whatever you wanted. All of the past cues would be there.

I think it would be a valuable tool to the community. I would like to have the pictures of all of the Carolina Cues backed up. Just to look back on over time. I bet it would make dating cues in the future much more simple.

However, I worry how others would take this. Would you be offended by this? They certainly wouldn't be MY pictures. Even if it was a cue we built, I still have no rights to the pictures. I'd just like to share them with the community.

As a note: Adding an opt out system would be trivial. You could set it to ignore all posts made by you. Or you might could remove pictures individually.

What do you guys think?

P.S. Any web/php developers interested in helping on this project?

I JUST WITH SOMEONE LAST WEEK ABOUT BUILDING A SITE LIKE THE ONE YOU MENTION. HE WAS GOIN TO WORK ON IT, BUT I DON'T REMEMBER WHO IT WAS THAT I WAS TALKING TO.

MY ONLY THING IS, SOME COLLECTORS DON'T WANT CUES THEY OWN TO BE PICTURED ON THE WEB. SOME WILL ACTUALLY NOT BUY IF THEY ARE SHOWN PUBLICLY ANYWHERE.

P.S. I THINK IT'S A NEAT IDEA.

Hello

A friend of mine is building a website in an effort to gather and promote the game of pool.

Here is a link to it. www.poolkhakis.com.

It is still very very empty as we just got started. Trying to see what content to fill it with. There will be a cue gallery section which i think would be perfect for this purpose.

BTW Pool Khakis means friends or companions.

Yeah, that's one of my bridges. That cue came out over the top. One of those I hated to see leave the shop.

Thanks for noticing though :)

Yeah, I realize some collectors are picky about people having seen their new purchase. I think they just want the opportunity to be the first to shock the scene with that particular cue. And, honestly, I can understand that.

No doubt, there will have to be an "opt out" system for handling this.
Something as follows:
1: AZ members should be able to have the "cueDB" ignore all posts made by themselves.
2: AZ members should be able to have the "cueDB" ignore specific posts made by themselves.
3: The new owner of a cue should be able to have any previous pictures of that cue removed. Say Bob takes pictures of a cue and posts it for sale. Jane buys the cue. Jane should be able to send in a picture of herself and said cue to prove the purchase. Then those pictures could be removed.

What is the phrase? "You can please some of the people, some of the time. However, you can never please all of the people, all of the time."

I think I may give this a shot.
