These are supposed to be folding veneers. You can't fold veneers when they are in two pieces. What needs to be done to correct the problem is for Lee to realign the present V - cuts to a more advantageous position so that the grooves are in the proper positions to get 6 folded veneers instead of just 5 and wasted material that could be the sixth. I also use folded veneers and 1 inch of veneer is needed to complete one folded veneer. My folded veneer blanks are .500 at one end and 1.500 at the other before I cut the miter. I glue up my veneer sheets 11 inch long and then just run them through the band saw at an angle and flipping the veneer from one end to the other on each cut.

What in the heck do I know about this........
I guess that's why all my veneers are one piece, solid V for each layer. I'm just looking at differently than you. I wasn't thinking about folding them!
But I guess that would be the way to do it.
