"Pinch Shooting" in a League

One of the toughest parts of being a high handicap APA player (6-7 in 8-ball, 7-9 in 9-ball) is finding play time or for that matter a team that will even accept you.

What if in addition to the coach rule there were up to two or three "pinch shots" that could be shot by any player on the team per set? This would encourage having higher handicap players on the team I think.

Thoughts?

A handicapped league should be for players of all levels, thats why its handicapped. If there is a "pinch hitter" for a shot how does that help the not so good player from getting any better? they have a high handicap for a reason. I play on a 3 man handicap league and have a pretty average team. I'm the high shooter with a low handicap. I have an "average" player, and I have a guy thats just been playing for a year for fun but wants to learn. If I take that shot for the low guy how is he going to learn to make that shot? I know some teams that would die for some handicap!!! plus, its hard to make a hard shot comming to the table cold, even for a good player

I don't believe that it is hard to get on a team being a high rated player. A 7 and 6 can play. That makes it 13. There is now room for two 3's and a 4. or a 2, 3 and 5. You can play two 7's, a 5 and two 2's. A pretty good team. What does make it difficult is if you want to stack a team and that is what the APA wants to avoid. Most times it is hard to get the lower players. They are low for a reason, because most don't take pool seriously.

Our team has 2 sixes, 5, two 4's, 2 threes, and a 2. Never have a problem gettting playing time with the 6's or 5.

What can hurt is if one of the 6 or 5 move up or if the lower players don't show up. Doesn't happen very often and really doesn't affect that much.
