Drew said:Alright, I'm sure someone has asked before but quite frankly, I'm just a little too lazy to search through years of threads. So, where's the hot spot in SA?
ironman said:If you are looking for action, good luck. There are 5 Fast Eddies in SA and an old place called Bananas Billiards. If you don't find any action within 15 minutes of either, that is about par.
If you do find action the first thing I would recomend is ask them if they can change a 100 dollar bill before you start. I hope you get the picture.
Drew said:Wow!! that bad huh?? I thought in a city this size I should be able to find a little. Well, turns out there's a Fast Eddie's about 2 minutes away from where I'm staying so I'm gonna check it out. Hopefully I get a little lucky and find something.

Mystick Cue Fan said:Frank Jr. Played David Parker this weekend getting the last two and I was playing his buddy. One of us won and one of us lost. But both of us were playing 100 dollar sets. So if we are the only guys in the city with gamble besides you, than here we are......Frank played the player and I played the roadie. Roadie couldn't play all that good. David plays pretty sporty. Anyway, Drew there are a few players out there who will play you cheap if you are looking in the right places. There are quite a few nut hunters out there who will only go in with the stone cold nuts. And those people just frustrate me. But there are a few that gamble. I sent you a PM if you're going to be in town for a while.

ironman said:Tony, I hate to burst your bubble, but this is about the only place in the world that considers $100 sets gambling.
Well, it has to be BP. The only reason I wanted to bet 40 was to be sure you had enough for at least 3 games. I'd come play but I'm leaving again in the morning and it's a long way over to that kiddie joint.deadwhak said:dont know who u are drew, but u got anywere from $50 to $100 action playing one pocket if u come to san antonio..im ready for some new action cuz im tired of playing all the local people...and as far as you "ironman",u know u can bet what u want with me, last i remember asked to bet only $50 a game one pocket and u only wanted to bet $40...only $10 more and u didnt want to do it!!! well this is an open invitation to you..u can bet want u want with me..get all you stake horses from dallas and let me know when u are ready to play and what u want to bet!!!.. i admit there isnt a whole lot of action in this town..but there a few people that will give a little action to who ever comes through...

One of the biggest whales in the country lives right here. He quit playing and quit coming to the pool room when nobody would bet anything.Mystick Cue Fan said:My bubble has been officially burst.......and it is quite gambling when we are the only 2 who seem to play anyone blindly 50-100 dollar sets considering our BR's and how bad we play. Believe me Lewis, if the average income was higher I'm sure the gambling would be higher as well. There are some who claim they have more gamble just because they have more money. What about the guy who has 70 dollars for the next two weeks to gamble with. So he isn't gambling when he's betting 10 a game on the side? All because the guy with 2 dimes in his pocket wants to bet 50 a game......so now the guy with 70 has no gamble? Gambling with what you have to gamble with is gambling. For me to lose 4 sets like I did that night is going off to me. Maybe if I had 20,000 just to screw off, I'd be playing 1,000 dollar ahead sets. The income here in the city isn't that high.......I do get a bit riled up when people tell me that this city has no gamble. Show me the avg. household income for Dallas, and Houston. Then show me San Antonio. I would be willing to guarantee if the BR"s were bigger the betting would be higher too. Any face I don't know has action with me for 20 or 30 dollar sets. I might just shoot 2 at you, maybe even one if I'm just getting stone cold robbed. But that's gambling to me. Is it worth it for a road player to play me? Abs. not. But honestly Lewis, name how many 100 dollar sets have gone on in the last 2 weeks.......I can't think of any. The best action I've seen is 2 guys playing 50 a game one pocket. Maybe we are the only city that considers 100 gambling. Maybe I'm the only guy who thinks losing 1,000 in a week is sickening to my stomach to where I felt like quitting........getting 50 dollars from compeltely busted. I might be the only one. If I had 2 dollars in my pocket I guarantee you I have more gamble than most anyone here in town, including all the good players and bookies and all. Just because Money doesn't run like water around here doesn't mean there's no gamble. Maybe one day a millionaire will come to town that loves pool and be known to go off and win big, but I doubt it. I know Dallas has a few. Houston as well. Bring in a whale and then if no one gambles, preach to others that this city has no gamble.... Anyway I'm rambling.

You use to have some pretty good gamble a few years back. Are you saying your out of retirement now and back on the playing field?
If so, you know I don't play one pocket but I'll try you some 9 ball.
As far as ironman goes, he spent a little longer on the road (20+ years) than the 3 or 4 months you did as I remember. I also remember when a big road trip for you was going to Austin, 70 miles away.
He. also, is the only player in this city that would take a shot at anyone who walked through the door at Banana's, no matter who they were. Remember Kid Delicious, Little Jon, Santos S., etc. At least, he had the cajones to step up and play them. Everyone else had the look of a deer caught in the head lights.
The rest of the quote "players" break and run for cover like a covey of quail if anyone came in from out of town to play.
Say what you will about ironman, but in my book, that's heart.
Let me know about the 9 ball.
And by the way, the best odds I can get between you and Vivian is 3-2, her favor. That goes both for playing pool or in a fist fight. LOL

i still feel i have a little gamble to this day...i may not gamble high but like i said, anywhere from $50 to $100 a game one pocket or $200 sets of nine ball is normal for me...if that isnt high enough..well..i guess i dont gamble...and i dont live in the pool hall..im lucky to get in the pool room once a week but ill still play..as far as being on the road, i did for about 2 years but never considered myself as a "road player"..i was just having fun...and it was past austin you nit!!! and i quit playin pool cuz i got a real job..something yall might consider doing someday... and why has it taken you 10 years to finally get the balls to play me!?!? and u have to post it on here to woof at me! i see you quite often and u are one of those deers you talk about when i walk in the pool room! not once in my life have u asked me to play!!! so u and your partner can get yall's bankroll together...(guess that will be whenever the next fast eddies tourney is to get yall's cut)..and yall can fire it at me cuz now you both got action for LIFE!!!!

First of all, Tony, my last post was aimed at Bob, not you. The only person I side bet on is me.
Bob,
First of all, don't go postal over this. LOL
The point of my last post was just to poke fun at you. Bud, we go back a long way. Remember, I was the one that helped teach you how to draw your ball over three inches.
I guess pool players have a short memory when it comes to remembering who they lost to. I don't remember you jumping out of your chair to ask me to play back in the day.We played a few times over the years and as I remember, you didn't like it much.
Remember the pay ball games on the snooker table? I busted that game practically ever time I played in it. Somewhere I still have a picture of you sleeping on the table next to the snooker table from one of our after hour payball marathons.
The crack about Vivian was the same one I told you, years ago, after you lost to her in a weekly tourney at Galaxy, 5-4. Just said it to see if you remembered and rile you up. LOL
And as far as "getting a real job", we can compare W-2's from when I was your age and we can bet as high as you like on that. Don't even have to adjust for inflation and that was 20-30 years ago.
Let a couple of old blind farts have their fun from the glory days when we were your age. This town still sucks as far as action. You and I both know that.
Lots of fond memories of you, Chris and Dirt growing up from the old Galaxy days.
