Well I got the bright idea a few nights ago to ask another player at Kolbys to play a race to 50 in 9 ball so we ended up playing it last night, just for good practice and because neither of us have done it before.I have to say it was more then I bargained for,it took 6 1/2 hours,we did have about 30 minutes worth of breaks though.I had some good runs and streaks but also some very bad play towards the middle and the end also.We are both 9 rated players in the state of AZ and 9 ball is his best game, its my weakest game I believe.I did end up winning 50-37,I do plan on doing it again perhaps once a month but I could only imagine how much it would improve my game if I did it everyday for a month.

Whats a nine level player? probably hard to answer but I was just trying to gauge the AZ scale. How many levels?

Whats Jimmy M? I have a good idea of how Jimmy plays?

Jimmy is probably top 10 in the state,he is a 10-1,the ratings go from a 4 to 10 with very few being 10-1 and we only have two 10-2 players Scott Frost and Mitch Ellerman,a 9 is a B player, could be a mid B to a strong B.

Playing long races does improve ones game, in my opinion. Me and a friend once played a 500 point game of straight pool every day for a week! At the end of the week I felt a marked improvement in my game, the patterns and shot selection became much more obvious.

Congrats on your win. I do not think that I could stay focused for that long

Thanks and we both lost focus at different times in the match,it was pretty brutal and I have more respect for the top players who play these long challenge matches, its grueling. :)

I would like to do it once a month if not once a week,it was not easy but it was certainly beneficial.

I think you'll find that after doing this a few times you won't want to play many short races. I remember after the week of playing all those long matches I had to play a match in my straight pool league which was a game to 100 points and I felt like it was ridiculously short.

I recently saw the Shane Alex race to 100 and was amazed at the heart and focus Alex showed on the last day and the end of the second day to come back like that. Shows how important the mental side is.

Yeah I really think that I want to do this once a month,9 ball is my least favorite game and my weakest game.
