Player Cue with Collectability Value

Have been considering another Cue, but I want something that is Playable, but also would hold it's value if I take care of it, but have to sell it. What is playable, but also would be one that holds value.

Such a thing, or pie in the sky? Budget is $1,500.00 Max

Southwest will sell for more than you pay for it. I dont know about the others.

How many times are we going to go through this? It's like the movie "Groundhog Day" where it keeps repeating itself over and over and over.
Your original thread is now located on page 4 and all of that has been discussed there along with other threads that you started on this issue. You even went from $1,500 to wanting a Lucasi. What gives? Just list all of the good ones mentioned by all of the posters, stick it on the wall and throw a dart. Wherever it hits will be O.K. Just make up your mind and do something already.

Best advice I have in your price range is to buy a used cue by a well known cuemaker and it will probably go up in value since you will be buying it at a good bit less than retail. The very high end exotic cues that might run 4 or 5 grand might make you money several years down the road, but for a safe investment, used is the way to go. Another advantage of a used cue is that you can hit some balls and see if you like it. There is another factor you might want to consider. How serious do you play? Do you make money playing? If so I would say forget about the few hundred your cue might depreciate and get someone to build you a custom cue that will help your game. You will have made up the few $ depreciation many times over in a short time. I have played with the same cue for fourteen years. I have built a few that I liked the feel of a little better, but always had them sold. So a little over a year ago I decided I would strip the finish, add some inlays and put a python wrap on it. Now my older simple 4 point with twelve ivory diamonds cue, is now a high end colllectors grade cue loaded with ivory and mother of pearl. I liked the cue, but felt it no longer represented the speed cue I build so I fancied it up and still play with what I am used to. You might even consider picking up a used cue from a well known cuemaker and have someone fancy it up. That would increase the value.

schon cue STL18

How about a Schon cue? Would they fall in this catagory? Also are they worth the investment as a playing cue? Example STL18.

Buy a Cuetec, its a solid playing cue for 100 bucks. Earl Strickland and Allison Fisher (both world champions) play with one.

I personally would be more worried about playability.(imo)But i think the best combo of the too in that range would be Mike Capone. But im biased because i use one. When you are stroking you arent going to be worried about how much it might end up being worth.Youll be making sure it does what you want it to do.Thats one of the things i had to tell myself when i was going through a simiar situation trying to figure out what i wanted in a cue.

Sir:

I really had being misquoted. I never said I wanted to buy a Lucasi, what I said in my post was. FYI

“Saw an interesting cue yesterday locally. Lucasi was the brand name, and think they are made in China.?

It also had something called a Uni-Lock Joint. Anyone have experience with these Cues, and this 360 Degree Locking Twist System?

Comments Pro or Con appreciated. Appears to be a lot of value for a low price.”

That's nice........You still have MORE than sufficient information from your other threads to make an extremely wise decision on what you're looking for. Fact is, there's so many different opinions already on what's the best playing cue and holds value that any more will drown you in confusion. Throw the dart............

Please don’t tell me how to run my life, unless you want to adopt me. Pay me a large monthly stipend. Buy me a big home on the golf course to live in with a three car garage. Plus buy me three new vehicles to drive to start with. If you want to adopt me I will send you my complete wants list gfor this week.... :D

I wonder how you finally bought your bicycle? lol

Many Test Rides, and actually I bought Two the Same Year. That was about 1995. The Bridgestone RB-18 was destroyed in a Crash, and I still have the Specialized Epic Comp that was my Second Favorite. FYI

You want a player cue, that will hold (and really go up in value)? Zylr.

Thanks,

Jon <<<-- Suprised Joey didn't say that

Zylr's I believe are on Back Order for Two Years. What I want is something that looks kind of like a Six Point, Veenered, SouthWest. But would hold its value, and not case me to come out of retirement.

Well yeah, you have a point... and usually the only reason people sell their Zylr's is because they've got more than one, or they just got a new one. I wish i had one :( . You don't see many for sale, but when you do, expect to pay a premium. It'll be hard to find a full blown SW for your budget, but i would want you to buy a cue from a SW copy cat either. You are in a tough spot lol... Good luck on your search...

Thanks,

Jon

Well, AZB wanted a 6-pointer and want it fast.
A Z doesn't qualify his criteria.
I could recommend a Prewitt but AZB will prolly look that up for a year before he decides. :D

O.K., allow me to make a suggestion then. Spend $1,300 on the cue and put the other $200 into a new bicycle seat. I think that current skinny one is wadding your panties to far up into your crack as you pedal untiringly all day.

Most of the custom cues mentioned are good choices. Allow me to throw another one into the mix.....Tim Scruggs! Why? A few reasons.

Playability..Tim makes a great playing cue I don't think anyone would deny that.

Availability..Between websites and Ebay you have a good selection.

Cost..Right in your wheelhouse. A nice used one will run you $1100 or so.

Holding Value..Well made custom cues usually hold their value pretty well. They will not increase in value very often but you won't lose your entire investment either. Some people lead you to believe that you can buy a custom cue and play with it for a few years and sell it for more than you paid. That is simply not the case. Cues are a buyers market not a sellers. A very small percent of cues will increase in value. Production cues are basically not worth much once you play with them.

Hope this helps. And by the way, I don't even play with a Scruggs or have any association. Someone else mentioned Capone and that would be a great choice but less available and cost slightly more. Ted Harris makes a great cue and he posts here. His wait list is too long though and you cannot find a used Harris anywhere. Good luck.
