Pool is not a fringe sport in Asia. It is mainstream with regular televsion coverage of major events. The players are well known here and respected.
Unlike the U.S. where the mainstream media does not treat Pool like a sport at all. Some sportswriters still think Pool is a game, with no athletic skill required. I have fought this battle to many times to mention. That is why I am so glad to be somewhere where Pool is treated like the difficult sport it is.

In the Philipines, when you mention Pool and the top players, people are all ears. They want to know all about Bata, Jhango, Luat, Alcano and more. In a nutshell, the media in these Asian countries treats Pool like the sport it is. The major events are covered on a daily basis. Makes it a little easier to attract sponsors as well. All in all, a different world over here. The center of the pool universe is Manila these days.

That why if your serious about playing, you go to the Philipines and stay for awhile. School of hard knocks. But you will learn to play better.

It's truly amazing how professional foreign players are in appearance and attitude when they play in the U.S. All are dressed nicely with there sponsor logos. You don't see them wearing t-shirts with hats turned around backwards. I think they have a higher respect for the game itself that our american players lack.

Our players all feel they are owed something for being talented. It seems american pool is all cut throat and back stabbing their way to the cash, even if it means cutting up the stake horses or side betters. I don't think that many of the players respect the work, time, and money that it takes to make big events happen. They think the money should just magically be there.

If the IPT does in fact collapse I think someone should grab the reigns now and start up a tour that meshes all the local and regional tours we have here in the states as a way to qualify players. These tours are already in place and each tour could have a set number of qualifiers for a larger tour. I think those smaller tours should unify their rules and work as one and then sponsorship opportunities would be easier to obtain. As it stands we have all these tours fighting for sponsorship money from the same companies. To unify them all makes too much sense.
