Players HXT LD shafts.

This is a continuation from another shaft thread. I had promised that as soon as I had a chance to give these shafts a fair evaluation, that I would post.

I had purchased a Predator butt, sans shaft for $200 sometime ago.

A friend of mine got me a decent deal on 3 Players HXT shafts. I decided to go for it as the only thing I had to go on was the fact that I could buy 3 shafts for approx the same price as one Predator shaft.

I figured that I had enuff money into the Predator butt, having it refinished by a Predator repairman, shipping etc.

I purchased 2 HXT shafts, 12.75 mm and one, 11.75 mm that came out to 12mm on the calipers. Even better for me.

I tried these shafts out on a league night. I would say pretty decent for the money.

I have 3 Pred shafts, they do what they say they do just fine.

I would take a Players HXT shaft over an expensive Pred shaft any day of the week.

I had a couple of much better players than myself try these shafts out and they also gave them a 2 Thumbs up.

Why buy one Pred shaft when you can have 2 HXT shafts for less money than one.

Just my humble opinion on these shafts. Very well made and fit the Pred butt 100%.

So, if anyone is looking for a nice but inexpensive LD shaft or a spare for the case, give them a try out, I don't think that you will be disappointed.

One guy that I talked to can't keep them in stock. They go out as fast as he can get them in.

I'm buying another and have a couple of League players that will be getting one as well.

I have an hxt with a straight taper and a regular players turned down to match both 11.75. I like the size and playability but my only complaint is I wish it hit a little firmer. Kind of flimsy it seems. They do come with a Kamui tip though. Over all it plays as well as my buddies pred z2 that I've tried out.

My first cue was a HXTE10. Great cue. A couple of my better-player friends tried it and gave it high marks. They were actually pretty surprised.

I only switched to an OB121 because I realized I like wrapless cues better than wrapped cues.

I've still got the HXTE10 and been meaning to put it on ebay or in the ForSale section (but the AZB For Sale section seems to be almost exclusively devoted to custom, high-end cues).

Just sell that cue locally to a new player, you can probably sell it for full price.
I sold mine for $100, paid maybe $130 for it when they first came out. The cue is actually being used by a 12 or 13 yr old girl that does pretty well with it, it's a great cue for a younger player, you get the low price and a great shaft to work with.

Someone else I know had the black with silver HXT model, he sold it to someone at one of the shows that offered him about $50 more than what he paid for it on the spot as he was walking by him.

I'm using a Players HXT 12.75mm LD shaft on my Espiritu butt. It hits really, really nice and transfers lots of spin to the CB. I did notice that with some (not all) extreme off-center hits the sound it makes is more of a hollow-ish "tink" sound, but I generally like it very well. Purchased for under $100 shipped from eBay seller with good rep and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I like the Kamui tip, too.

I was using a Players HXT cue for the last 6 months when waiting for my Josey to be finished. It was a great cue.

IMO, those shafts are much more player friendly than Predator. I've given Predator shafts a chance on three different occasions, and hated them every time. The third time I played with Predator for over two months, and couldn't get use to it. The HXT were much better suited to my play, and the adjustment curve was minimal.

thats the shaft im using right now with my joss butt, had the 12.75 turned down to 12 (got a great deal but the guy didnt have any of the 11.75 on him, so i just picked it up and had ted harris turn it down for me). first thing ted says to me is "what brand is this? its freakin straight as an arrow!" great LD shaft for less imo.

I too think the HXT is a solid LD shaft.

I've posted in other threads about the PureX Jump/Break cue + playing shaft deal Seybert's has had in the past. I've been mostly playing with that cue since I got it. In fact, I'm seriously considering bringing it to the SBE next month instead of traveling with my Alex Brick and Meucci with Z2 / OB2. Make no mistake, the Brick is a better breaker and jumper and I think the Z2 and OB 2 play a bit better, but the Players is more than adequate especially considering I only have to lug around one butt and two shafts in a small case to have everything I need.

And for the price you can't go wrong.

HXT gets two thumbs up from me too.

I took them up on that offer twice...lol. it's an excellent deal.

Wow, I am kind of amazed at the amount of people that use these shafts and have good things to say about them.

Being married, I am quite used to being wrong, once a week, a few times a month, that sort of thing.

Playing in a pool tourney late last Sat night. My wife sent me a text asking me to pick up smokes and eggs.

I told her that groceries is her department and I don't buy smokes for smokers. Boy, was that ever a wrong thing for me to text at 1 am in the morning.

As if Canada isn't cold enuff as it is at the moment. Still some icicles hanging in the living room.

Got one of these on trade didn't like it too much went back too the trust old ob but good too see some like it

Played with an HXT Butt and Shaft last night at league, didn't have my Gear. So I borrowed a Teammates was extremely surprised and happy with the cue and shaft. Considering getting one myself as my second.

Black Cat

does anyine with experience able to compare them to ob 1 or 2 shafts?
nice review to the op

Take a look in the review forum, should be a few things there.

Seems like the HXT shafts are always a surprising good thing for people, but we've been saying good things about them for a while now. Good stuff from Players. Makes me wonder why the Lucasi stuff is more money for some of those products if the HXT series is so good and they are from the same parent company. I have a sneaking suspicion it's more branding than anything else.

Thanks, did you already get the items? Web site looks a bit on the budget side, wanted to double check if they actually filled yourand order. Did you get a chance to specify the joint type on the shaft?

Yup; ordered the Mrs a white one with skinny shaft.. her valentines' day gift. Fast shipping; slow communication though. I think it's just 1 guy with a shop and cell phone.

The free shaft is a turbo lock joint to fit the break butt.

Yes I did get her chocolate and a card too.
