Hi I am Doug Carter and i live in Lynchburg Va. I have been out of pool for about 6 months now because of back trouble. Anyway i am looking for players in my area to play pool with. I travel to Roanoke a lot and work on the pool tables at Guys and Dools pool room. I am also an instructor and would be willing to share what knowladge i have with you at no cost. I was taught by Tom "Dr Cue" Rossman one of the best trick shot artist in the world. I was involved in one clinic with the Monk and have met a lot of the best instructors in the world. Most of them endorse my Stroketrainer. I also have traveled and met just about all of the pros and have got a lot of knowladge from them. I have ben able to get close and chat with just about all of the pros by going to tournaments with Dave Hodges and Quick-Clean and cleaning the tables. I consider most of them my friends and they have told me things that realy helped my game when i was playing. If you live close and are interested in knocking around a few balls let me know. You can send me an email at mr8ballme@yahoo.com Thanks, Doug :)

Hi, Doug! Hope all is well with you and yours. Sorry to hear that your back is still giving you troubles, but it sounds as if you're back in the saddle again, ready to roll! :)

Lynchburg sure is a pretty part of the country! FYI, Josh Dickerson is hosting the Second Annual Virginia State 9-Ball Championship at The Playing Field in Richmond sometime the end of July. Last year, they had a very good turnout, and Josh did a fine job running the show. It's a one-day event. Chris Lauer (sp) of Fredericksburg won it and received a free $500 entry fee to the U.S. Open and 900 bucks in cash. Not bad for a day's work, and no travel expense! :)

BTW, remember when you guys got your laptops stolen in Philly? Well, it just happened to me, too! Mine was stolen in Albany, NY right out of my hotel room. I was compensated by management after I made some noise, but it still made me feel violated in some sort of way, leaving me with a sour taste in my mouth about being on the road in general. Fortunately, Keith won the tournament that weekend, which made the 7-hour ride home more pleasurable. :p

Hope to see you soon, maybe at the Open, if not sooner! Think about Richmond! Picture below of Chris who won it last year, Josh Dickerson the TD, and you-know-who, who was runner up!

Doug,
I am glad you have overcome your back problem. Does this mean you're going to start competing again?

See at the Open in Sept

LOL. Well, so much for saving on hotel bills! One thing for sure, I'm definitely going to be looking forward to the snooker table at The Playing Field! :)

Hi i am still haveing a lot of trouble with my back and have tried everything to get it better. I am takeing about 6 methadone pill's a day right now and a xanax to sleep it's just knocking the edge off the pain. I have nerve damage they say. In november my dissabillity ins. goes in affect and hopefully i can get something done then. To be honest i have spent all my money on this back trouble. With no ins. it is tuff. Afted my surg. in 1997 i havn't had a day with out pain. I tried to quit playing pool to see if it would help but it hasnt. Now i have realized how much i miss it. Right now i am just takeing it one day at a time. It wont take long for me to get my game back because i have been useing my stroketrainer. I dont feel that i have lost my stroke. I might try to make it to the state tournament it just depends on how the back is doing. Jam i am sorry to here about your laptop but you just cant trust anyone now days. At least you got yours back. I bought me a new one but i'm not going to go to tournaments to sell the stroketrainer anymore. I only have 15 left and after that i would like to sell the idea. I have a few changes i want to make to it that will make it better i just cant afford to do it anymore. Anyway it is good to here from you guys and i hope to see you all soon. I would love to get out there and play in a few tournaments but the last few i tried to play in i had to forfit out of the winnwer side because of my back went out so i will have to waite and see. See yall soon i hope. Your friend, Doug :)

I'm up in Blacksburg. I'm a grad student at VT. I don't get to Roanoke very often but I would be willing to go up there and hit some balls during the weekend when I get back in town in August. I'm leaving in two weeks to study abroad for 2-3 months in Australia. I need to find some new people to play with around here. I'm a SL 7 in 8ball and SL9 in 9ball in the APA. I don't get to practice much cause I work all the time plus I'm to broke to gamble.

That would be nice. I use to come up to Squiers and play all the time with a guy named Trevor Stanley. I taught him for about 2 years and we are best friends. He win's most of the apa tournaments in that area. We played on the same team in Roanoke for a long time. I think he is of the best 8 ball players around. Let me know when you get back and we will get togeather. Thanks, Doug

Trevor is on the Triple Play Masters APA team that I'm on. We won a spot to vegas this year but I can't go because I'll be in Australia. Trevor and the other two guys on the team are going to give it a shot though.

Trevor and I played in Vegas last year in the vnea we finished pretty hi but you know pool when it goes bad it went bad for all of us. The team that beat us wasnt as good as we were the ball's just didnt go our way. Anyway you can ask Trevor about me and maybe we can all get togeather. Trevor and i might play in Roanoke this weekend. You are welcome to come along if you like. I will let you know what day we are going. I am going to call Trevor today. How about contacting me through email at mr8ballme@yahoo.com and we can set up something. Have a good day and i will catch you soon

why does it have to be pool is the only sport, hobby that someone has to get broke in to be good at?

Actually, it isn't!! Everyone pays a price for their knowledge.

Can you imagine playing against a 5 year old kid for hours? Would you do it? Why? Because it's a challenge? It's interesting? It puts pressure on you? Just out of the kindness of your heart to donate some time to the kid?

Now let's say that kid is 40, but plays like a 5 year old kid.

peace

Hay i dont gamble so no worries there i dont mind helping people for free. I would not reccomend surg. if you dont have to. I have been in more pain everyday after i had mine. Of course things have came a long way and after i get my insurance i am going to John Hopkins to see if they might can help. I dont get to richmond much anymore, I use to play at the sidepocket in a league and we were leading the thing but they kicked us out. The guy that was our coach was takeing our money and wrighting Bill bad checks and in sted of Bill going after him he told us we could not play unless we paid all the money again. O well thats the past and i will let you know when i get up that way. Till then have a good one

to a certain extent but pool is not the first thing ive competed in...and every other sport it was more b/c people actually had a desire to win...that's might be the problem w/ the sport/hobby...it isnt about the desire to win for people!!! sorry to get off topic but i just dont think someone should be robbed just to "learn." if someone wants me to pay them to teach them than fine...but i aint playing someone just to get robbed.

im not sweating it...i'll get good at it even if it means i play all day by myself...and when i do if someone has real desire to be good then i'll show them what i know...i really see why no one likes pool.

i bet mj wasnt betting people and side betting to get good at basketball...i bet he didnt have to lose money to the neighborhood crook on the court...he played b/c it was fun and he liked to win...yes he im sure went to camps etc..as have i that cost money but damn that was just to learn the fine points of an already good game and that imo is not the same as getting ROBBED to pay DUES...

EDIT: to add to that...why dont you see more people w/ skills playing even against EACH OTHER...too many crooks just want the easy fish instead of the big one....id rather play someone competative than to play an easy setup win.
