Who are some of the most notable players that have quit pool for poker? I have heard about Ginky and now it seems that Pookie has taken that road also. By the way, how is it going for these two?

If anyone knows of Jay Helfert from California, former player and tournament promoter, players poker and players really well. In two tournaments this years he placed 1st in a CA tournament and won $15,000 and placed 6th at an event at the WSOP this year and won $41,000.

Snooker player Jimmy White plays poker and is very successful at it in Europe.....

One of the top local players (probably not anymore, though) in Chicago, Chris Gentile, is reportedly doing quite well in poker these days.

Chris is a very solid poker player. Interesting story before I knew who he was we were playing Omaha at the Taj and somehow the conversation shifted to pool. Before you knew it we were going to quit our juicy game to go play a large ahead set of 9 ball. Lucky for me John Hennigan told me I couldn't get there and to stick to the Omaha.

Tang Hoa from So Cali has gotten into the poker scene a lot lately, from what I hear. He still plays the pro events, but not as much. Lately I've seen him in Santa Monica playing 1-pocket so maybe he'll be back in the swing of things?

Other than Tang, I hear Ian Costello has gone the way of poker as well.

Watching Poker on tv they talk about John Hennigan. Ive never heard of him and they call him a champ. I know he used to play out of Philly but was he ever that good?

According to a friend of mine, John Hennigan was a good player, but not a champion by any stretch. They do that on ESPN to pump up each players bio's.

Heard that Tom Tom is playing cards. I know I don't see him playing much pool but I still wouldn't mess with him in one pocket.

Daniel Negreanu has commented how he used to hustle pool before turning to poker. I had never heard of him before his poker days, but then again, I am not from Canada.

John Hennigan

I just saw him the other night on, I think, the Bravo channel participating in the heads up tournament they are running. Top 64 players playing heads up single elimination. He made it to 16 before losing(forgot who to). A lot of top pros are in this tournament. Phil Helmuth in top 8 as of this week.

Bobby (Jean Robert) Bellande is a former poolplayer who has won over half a million so far this year in Poker tournaments. You can see him on ESPN where he finished 3rd in one of the World Series of Poker tournaments.

He was only a B poolplayer but he was big action. He won about $150,000 off of one guy but he lost big time also. I once saw him play a single game of 9 ball for a $1000 and win, they then went to $2000 for a game and he won that also.

I had my longest one-pocket winning streak against him winning 19 games in a row for $100 a game. After the 19th game he asked me "What should I do?" I replied "I would have quit 18 games ago." He paid up and called it a day.

Yeah he has. watta shame. ironic though, in Vegas he's well known as a pool player; he moves to the Bay Area and gets hooked on Poker!

I wish these guys could find a balance. Poker as a vocation and primary money maker; Pool as a hobby/sport and maybe supplementary income, but don't give it up. I understand the time required to keep your game sharp, but a lot of pros have had other careers and still had game.

He was lookling for action

How about Mark Tad!

I know he was playing alot online, not sure what he is doing these days.

He was one onepocket.org last week looking for action in the St. Louis area as he was headed there. I am sure Tom steered him in the right direction unless he was b.s.
