Player's who quit pool early

Now, about Tommy "The Grinder" Fishbaum.
Tommy was one of the best One Pocket players to come out of the Midwest. He could go eight and out in a heart beat. As good as he was, however, professional pool was not the best way for a young man to make a living and support a growing family. Tommy, and his wife Barbara Anne, had two kids and a third was on the way.
Down to his last fifty cents, he swallowed his pride, put his pool cue in it's case, and asked his Uncle Morty for a job in the family business. Baiting trot lines.
Starting out as an apprentice baiter didn't pay much, in the beginning, but with hard work and a determined spirit he was certain he could realize his dream. To one day become a Master Baiter.
The Fishbaum family lived happily ever after. :smile:

Just for the record playing poker and winning poker are two different things. While some have had success there will be many more that fail. This is not meant to be negative in any way. I understand why so many pool players gravitate to poker. There is no matching up, you always get paid, referees (dealers, floor man), there is immediate action every day for all amounts, and scores can and will be infinitely larger. It is sad that pool can't be the same way.

The guys listed who switched to poker are making more playing poker than anybody who plays pool. John Hennigan plays poker as well. Pool will never be the same way because of the luck involved in poker. A bad poker player usually doesn't realize how bad he really is so he will continue to give away money and keep thinking about the times he sucked out. The same is not true in pool. If you run into a better player, the difference in skill is apparent almost immediately. Even if the better player hides his speed he still won't make tons of money from his opponent. People bet thousands at poker tables they have absolutely no business being at but they don't realize they have the worst of it.

Was told "Pretty Boy Floyd" was playing a bit in Vegas. Haven't been there recently. Not sure.

Anybody can play poker, winning at it is another, and winning at it for a long period of time is another. I know that playing efren I have no chance. I know that playing Doyle I have no chance however I could win a few hands here in there by luck or maybe even a bluff. Outplaying him no chance in hell just like with efren

Your chances of beating Doyle in a small number of hands is much higher than the chances of you beating Efren in say a race to 7. While you have no shot vs either long term, you can think for a long time you are close in skill vs Doyle. A couple cooler situations and suckouts in your favor and you think maybe this guy isn't that great. You know where you stand before the first race vs Efren is over. Also the guys I named have had success playing poker or more than likely they would still be playing pool. Poker and pool have many similarities and typically if one excels at one they are capable of excelling in the other. Honestly now I put more time into my pool game than I did when I was playing online poker exclusively. Win a couple grand in a poker tournament in a day vs having basically no shot at winning anything substantial on a pool table.

Many similarities? Other than decision making and the ability to focus and concentrate and all that other stuff name them. And I don't wanna hear money management and game selection and the like.

Personal freedom and you can set your own schedule. Both activities are typically played in the evening to early morning hours. Strong knowledge base is required for both. Both are considered gambling obviously. Both can be very solitary which some really prefer. People do both while smoking and drinking and your diet doesn't really matter in either.

you hit that spot on. people are usually quitters when the goin gets tough. sucks when someone is better but doesnt mean you have to quit

Know for sure Teddy, Ian and Nick Shulman are playing poker. See Teddy and Ian infrequently at the LV Cue Club. Doesn't John Kuchero have a medical problem that keeps him from playing his best? Chris Orme disappeared about a year ago. Last saw him at a Joss event at Salt City Billiards in Syracuse. There is some guy named CJ that posts here from time to time. Wonder if it's the same guy ! Saw Dee's name on the entry list for the Eastern BCAPL event in Wheeling.

Yea I play with Ian used to play with before he played in the biggest games in the world, Teddy is in the casino busisness last I heard. Chris Orme played very sporty was always a dark horse when he would venture more south then canada and or New York area
