Players with glasses

Steve Mizerak is the name that comes to mind from the past as the top player that was most successful playing while wearing glasses.

Frederic Caudron, world's best balkline player
and I believe #1 in 3-cushion as well.

Karen Corr is the first one that comes to mind. She wears some great big glasses. I would have to guess that most players don't wear glasses not because they all have perfect natural vision but because they would constantly bother them. They would slip when they lean over for a shot and probably just bug them. I know they make them to curl around your ears and stay on better but I think even that would bother me. I'm lucky enough to have good vision. Bert Kinister (instructor) wears them in some of his newer tapes as he has gotten older and can't see as well.

I wear glasses at work all day (staring at a computer screen, surprise surprise), but I put in contact lenses to go play pool. It's not that they slip or bother me physically, it's that I'm 6'2" and play with my chin 1-2 inches off the cue, and so my head is tilted down toward the floor with my eyes looking "up" along the cue as I shoot, meaning I'd be looking either over the top of my glasses, or I'd have the top of the frames in the middle of my field of view, unless I had some weird lenses that went up almost to the middle of my forehead. I think my glasses would be okay if I shot more upright, like the older-style american pool stance, so that I could look straight out at the shot instead of looking up past my eyebrows at the shot.

I used to have trouble when i wore my glasses, now that i'm wearing contacts I don't have issues with glare, and just plain clearity of sight. I can just plain see things better and that's just not with pool.

Dennis Taylor beat Steve Davis for the World Snooker Championship in 1985 with glasses, big ones. Bigger than Karen Corrs, or maybe the same i don't know. He was also in the world championship final in the late 70's, 1979 sounds right.

I used to wear shooters glasses but no more.

I assume they are made for pool. Special frames with pool vision. I have used mine for about 15 years now. Love them

The glasses Howard wears are really for skeet & trap shooters. I wore them for years until I tried contacts. Any pair of glasses has a sweet spot and the peripheral vision that contacts allow is much better for pool playing. Especially One Pocket where you need to see the big picture. Contacts (IMO) are second only to laser-vision or lens transplants.

Charlie "The Dragon" Williams wears glasses, although i never seen him with them on while playing pool, but chilling in the crowd he sports them.

Danny Barouty wears specs ... without a doubt, the best pure straight pool player I've ever seen in person.

I think

the majority of players just get contact lenses if they are
able to. Your vision is better with contacts than glasses,
they cost less than glasses do nowdays, and you don't
have the constant annoyance of trying to sight through
glasses when you are down in position, or to constantly
have to push them up on your nose. Plus you don't have
those redspots beside your nose.

Actually, I don't wear glasses at all anymore. I had Lasik done in May - best money I ever spent. I wore those big glasses for a few years, and hated them, so after surgery, some fellow players and I spent a little time destroying them. We stomped on them, ran them over with a car, hit them with a baseball bat, set them on fire, etc. I'm not usually a destructive person, but that was kind of fun....
