Thanks everyone.
In the league where I play-my rating(over rated) determines the spot-wild balls.
Generally, I put the 8 in the 4th row behind the 9. Those 2 ball positions generally go to the back short rail and then to the side long rail..kind of a lazy 'double the corner' path. Unless kicked, usually a safe place to put it. An older player whose opinion I value gave me that advice. As an all game player, 5-day a week TD, East coast 14.1 champ and Johnston City player...I thot I should take his advice. 95% of the time-works well.
Short version-I racked like that-other guy broke weakly, 8 went straight in the corner on the side it favored.(The balls wouldn't rack tight at the back of the rack-maybe that was what happened?)
Next game-put it in my least favorite spot-behind the 1. 8 went straight in the side on the side it favored, broken from opposite side.
Crap happens.
I'll go back to 4th row, and take my chances.
