Playing a better player

When I play better players in 8-Ball, I like to leave as many balls on the table as possible until I am sure that I can run out. I do this so I have better safety options and more places for them to get hooked. What is your strategy?

That needs to be eliminated from the game.

i have not read all the posts so i am not sure if this has been said or not.

completely disregard who your opponent is and just play the table.its the best piece of advice i have ever gotten from a better player than me plus this other piece of wisdom from another former team mate....if you can not run out , play safe.

the 1st one i got about 10 years ago when i joined a money league. we were in playoffs and my captain threw me against an 8...actually dumped on him since we were up by 2.

as i was putting my cues together i muttered out loud...i cant beat no friggin 8...i am only a 3. my co captain said....dont play your opponent ...play the table. i got up and won 3-0 in a 3-8 race. i completely disregarded who i was playing and just played what the table gave me. made shots when i needed to and played safe when i needed to.

when you get to worrying if you screw up he is gonna run out you wind up screwing up and he does run out.

what size of table is this situation being referred to? barbox or 9 footer?

8' tables are what this tournament was played on. But we also play league on 9 footers
