I'm going to Boston this weekend and I'll be at the Boston Billiard Club on Thursday night. If any AZBers want to shoot, PM me (I shoot B speed, as a few AZB folks can verify.)

Are there any BBC regulars I should look for, or look out for?

Too bad you can't make it a little further south to play in Quincy.
I believe there is a 9-ball tournament on Thursday nights.

Koop - not sure of any action at BBC.

Regular pool shooters at Boston Billiard Club? Have you ever been to one?

As much as I like BBC's, there generally aren't many serious players there, unless they have leagues going on, I guess.

I'm staying in Copley Plaza and not renting a car, so it looked like the BBC on Brookline was the best bet. Is there somewhere else I should go? Seemed like BBC would be better than Jillian's.

I would definitely recommend BBC over Jillians. I've played lots in both. Jillians is painful. You can only take the sound of a cue falling on the hardwood floor so many times. Neither is really a shooters room, but I've seen open players shooting in BBC. To bad Brighton Billiards is closed. Also too bad I'm playing in a league that night. I shoot about B speed and love the Gold Crown/Simonis combo at BBC.
I second the idea that if you can get about 15 min. south to Quincy, they have had good tourneys there. I think there is one on Thurs. from what I've heard. It is called Renaissance Billiards.

Have fun,

I think the bus goes to the T-stop in Quincy. Its a very short walk from there. go to MBTA website.

Actually the subway goes to within a short walk of Renaissance. If he wants to give it a try ....

Green line to Park Street upper
From Park Street under Red line Braintree train to Quincy Center station.
Ask somebody where Renaissance is. If nobody knows ask where the Registry of Motor Vehicles is, somebody will know that. Renaissance is in the same building, same floor, deeper into the building. If nobody knows that ask where the movie theater is (assuming it is still there) Renaissance is under it.

I'd like to make it to Quincy, but I figure any place that has Gold Crowns with Simonis can't be too bad. BBC it is.

Thanks for the tips,
Cory

I love going to Boston Billiards. Have fun. Bring your wallet. It's generally expensive, but I don't know what you're used to.

I'm at BBC about 2-3 times a week. There is 9-ball league tonight. The price is pretty high, about $10 an hour. Then there is food and drinks. Have fun.

So I ended up shooting at BBC on Thursday with Paul "thepavlos", who was nice enough to both give me a ride from my hotel to BBC and let me shoot with a really nice-hitting Danny Tibbits cue. We played 1P for a few hours and had a good time, thanks Paul!

I thought BBC was a nice place, with 40+ Gold Crowns all covered with Simonis. And even had the tables been Olahausen's with rubber-backed cloth, the waitresses still would have made the trip worthwhile--not your typical pool hall waitresses. I recommend it if you're visiting that part of Boston.

When Paul had to leave, he pointed out a local shortstop (Mike Y., I think) who was playing his buddies using the butt-end of a bridge. So I went and played Mike some low stakes 1P. I think I would have taken the cheese, but I couldn't talk him into continuing to use the butt-end of the bridge.

Someday I'll have to check out the BB in Nashua, but every time I think about going there I think for a 10 minute ride further south I can play in smoke-free Massachusetts.

Thanks Cory
It was a pleasure meeting you. At least now I have reason to practice even more :)
