playing with a house cue

I have also experienced the same as you with the bar cue thing. When i pick up one in my pool room and just play, I usually play better. I went as far as buying several different brands of bar cues to find the perfect one. Before long I was doing the same thing with them as my more expensive cues (over analyzing), which defeated the whole purpose for using it in the first place. I played a few months with the perfect bar cue (Dufferin) and switched back to my Schon one night. I could not face the fact that I could play just as good with a $20 cue as I could with my $700 cue.

Jee

yea i know what you are saying. i have not shot with a bar stick in 10 years until the other night.

i was just amazed that i was shooting better with a bar stick than i do with my phillipi, which cost a heck of a lot more than a bar stick, that was why i started this thread, just to share my experience from the other night.

I like a good house cue and like how they feel, if I could only get one to fit in the trunk of my car then I'd consider buying one as my playing cue (I'd rather not cut one down).

That being said, even when just banging around I'd rather play with my own cue becasue eventually I'm going to want to lay down some crazy English and I want to be able to count on my cues shaft deflection and how my Moori grabs. So I keep my cue out until I put the balls away.

i have a friend here that used to own a pool hall and did cue repair. he also converted house cues and i think he does a great job on them. i know hit is subjective to every one but i just dont think his conversions hit as good as a one piece cue.

i also play with a moori tip but i dont really care for low deflection shafts.
i have a predator blak 4 with a 314/2 shaft and 2 mc dermotts with a g core shaft and an i 4 shaft. they sit in the closet and i play with a phillippi with a standard shaft.

by the way the best playing production cue i owned was a meucci gambler. there was just something about that whippy shaft that enabled me to make some crazy shots that i have not been able to duplicate with any other cue i have owned. wish i had not sold it.

probably mostly gone by now

I play on the road with a house cue. I can't keep one at Buff's because they hide it on me! Tried several times too. I put my L N L logo on it and they erase it. I even put one on top of the light fixtures over one of the tables and it is MIA when I come back! He, he, he, I just get another stick and go on ahead and use it.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

Probably mostly gone by now but I'm the one that put triangle tips on about a gross of Buff's cues. Many of those have quality ferrules threaded on also. The shaft area was reconditioned on all of those too but that was a long time ago!

Places I played all the time I usually had a few pet cues, my quick grab off the wall wasn't as random as it looked. As we both know though, most house cues play just fine if you index them, turn any warp up or down. I used to play with a hilariously warped cue. The only one I have seen, 28 inches or more of pro taper! The shaft was the same size from the tip to where it joined the handle, there was a big step there. It had a nice smooth inch or inch and a half bow in the shaft and was so ridiculous nobody else would play with it so in many ways it was the best stick in the house.

Gonna send you a PM.

last night at league after our matches were over i packed up my cues and went over to hang out and watch my gf's team playing their matches. i soon got bored and walked around socializing.

i wound up back over where our team had played and one of my teamates asked if i wanted to play some. i said sure and since i had left my case over where my gf was playing and did not want to walk back to get them i just grabbed a cue off the wall.

now my teamate and i are both 5s and we always match up good. we have played 5 or 6 racks at a time several times with neither one ever getting more than a game ahead.

well he won the 1st game and i won the next 6 in a row with that house cue before my gf came over and said she was ready to go. i just did not want to quit, i was playing better than i have in the last 20 years. it reminded me of my younger years when i would walk into a bar and grab a stick off the wall and keep the table till closing time.

now my you i have never been a world beater or even a good shortstop but i could hang with most of the better local in my area.

now if i could just figure out how to carry that stick i used last night around with me.....

Sometimes you just find a good one :-)
