Playing with Earplugs

I dare em to tell me I can't cut my hearing aides off...I would sue the pickle-juice out of them. That's major discrimination.

How do you like the nano, Zeeder? I was thinking about buying one.

How many songs does it hold (4GB means little to me)?

Do you use it in your car too? If so, how do you connect (radio transmitter, direct plug in, etc)?

I like it very much. It's got a very nice color screen that is very easily readable. The 4GB holds about 1000 songs (I have about 1100 songs on mine with room for another album or two). As far as I'm concerned, 4GB is plenty. I mean it's 50+ hours of music. It's easy enough to add and remove songs so I just don't see the need to ever have much more. That is unless you feel the need to carry every song you have with you at all times.

I've not gotten an adapter for the car as of yet, although I have just left the headphones in and listened to it while driving. I leave it at a level where I can still hear the traffic and other sounds around me for safety though!

Damn buttons... I need to lose some weight in my fingers :p

From the pictures I've seen that's about the only place you need to lose weight, hubba-hubba...but I digress. :D

I don't know what you consider cheap, but the new iPod Nano's are reasonably inexpesive. I just bought the 4GB Nano and it's great. fit's in a shirt pocket or change pocket on jeans and it's so light you don't even know it's there.

Hmm, here in Finland iPod Nano costs $350. Wouldn't call that even reasonably inexpensive. Well, of course depends how much extra money one has...

I recommend an Ipod Shuffle, the 512MB one is sweet. 100 bucks and does all I need it to do...my wife and I both have one. Heck I have a 30GB Zen extra that is sitting around collecting dust now.

50 bucks ? Not looking for a bargain, just helping out a friend, you'll never know what harm some excess dust can do to and your wife. ;) :D

Shorty, I had the iPod shuffle but it stopped working completely in about a month. I've heard others had the same problem. I'm wanting to try the iPod Nano, though. Haven't heard of any problems with it.

My wife and I have had ours for almost a year now with zero problems...and my wife uses hers pretty heavy. Loves it as a matter of fact.

If I can find the damn charger I might would sell it for that. I am so mad that my house has swallowed it up. I know it worked last time my daughter used it, but that's been 6 months ago. She now has an Ipod Mini. Yes, we are a technology savy family. Sad when your 5 year old has a better PC than you do eh? LOL

I will let you know if we find the charger, thinking about selling it for sure.

I heard the ipod nano had bad pixels. Not sure how true this is tho. But it is really sweet compared to my ipod mini. And it has this lock feature where nobody can get into your ipod unless they know the password/code.

I like that I can clip the mini to my back pocket, I can swap songs very easily. I am also definitely guilty of using my ipod to zone out from the crowd and just focus on the table. Since I'm so use to using it during practice, I have a hard time not using it during my league matches. In my last tournament, I would let my opponents know that I am plugging my ears and if they'd have a problem w/ that...and nobody have said no to me yet.
;)

This is an interesting post which brings me to the following:

We have a great pool hall here in chicagoland area. It is owned by 2 partners which are in the biggest feud the pool world has seen. They hate each other so badly that they won't even talk to each other. If one of them really needs to say something to the other, it has to be relayed through an neutral party..

Ok, so they are doing everything possible to make each one of them sell to the other. The one fired the others wife that was working at the hall. Because he could, no real reason than to piss the other partner off. She most likely was the only honest employee that they had, JMHO. So.. the other in spite hired a band that has something called "Mic" night. For all that are not familiar with "Mic" Night, it is when a person can come off the street and sing his/her heart off. The results of this are for the most part REAL BAD! This band comes in on APA night when they have more than a dozen team league players there. The music is horrific, just awful. So, the hall has taken to selling ear plugs on that particular night when the other partner is not there...

Apparently the ear plugs have been a bigger seller than the band and people have begun to not only get used to them but to wear them when the band is not there. People that never wore them before are using them on a regular basis for concentration.... I guess not all bad came from "Mic" night.! :D

I've had my 40gig ipod for almost a year now and love it. Got it cheap at CostCo, and have used it virtually daily. It has every cd I own on it, plus tons I greedily burned from friends' collections.

Total songs loaded so far: 4,255.
Mem used: 14.70 GB.
...I do have a lot of classical pieces that count as a "song" but last as long as 20 minutes.

Also, I can plug it into the car stereo through the tape deck, OR wirelessly through a radio transmitter. all those cds are now with me everywhere.

I have heard the ipod battery sucks, and I am waiting for mine to fail. Even if it does, I still love it while I have it.

back to pool- related: I've never used the ipod while playing. I want to hear the balls and also know when trouble is brewing in the room... and then there's always the fear of bursting out into song when i'm the only one who can hear the music.

I bought a Nano and love it. No dead pixels on mine. They do scratch very easily though. You should look into a case asap.

Now that I have been assimilated into the Ipod world, I am looking for a 40 or 60 gig model that I can copy everything to.

I do think it will have to be that big though. I am a big live music collector and have a lot of 'live' CDs from various artists.

Definitely gonna give it a try playing with headphones though.

I think it's a WPBA rule that you can't wear headphones while playing (whether on TV or not). Does anyone know why the WPBA has this rule?
In addition to the reasons I mentioned earlier - as your opponent, it's my responsibility to make sure you hear it when I say "Roll Out", "Push Out", or "Safety" and it's also difficult to get your attention if I want you to stop your shot in order to get someone else to watch the hit - it's probably quite possible to rig headphones to a receiver to get coaching from someone else while playing.

I have neither the time nor the concentration to read this entire post but I'll assume at some point someone mentioned playing with Ipods. I'd just like to say that the amount of people who play in tournaments with their headphones on is getting out of control. I think you have to be a complete jerk to have the audacity to do this. Nobody in any other sport plays with headphones. They dont do it in golf, they dont do it in baseball, and they sure as $hit shouldn't do it in pool. If you cant concentrate in a match and need earphones to help you out, well then you're just not good enough to win.

This is right up my alley since I've been suffering from chronic Tinnitus for 'bout 20 years now! :(

The ridiculously loud music cranked up in the pool room I play @ makes my ear drums throb in pain, and the ringing in my ears when I get home drives me nutz!!!

Now I use Howard Leight earplugs and pop them in when the music gets too loud. They have the highest NRR (33), are very comfortable and block the noise great! :)

If you're self-conscious 'bout people seeing them, you can get the "hearos" (not sure of the spelling) flesh colored earplugs @ any good supermarket, rite aide or sav-on. My friend uses them since he has such short hair...I'm not sure if they're made by Howard Leight and what the NRR ratings are on these are.

You can click this link http://www.howardleight.com/products/products2.asp?id=4 for more technical info. on the Howard Leight's @ their official website.
