Playing with extension attached full time

Hi ya'll, I have a fun fact for you today. Cues like the Cuetec SVB Gen One are known to be pretty rear-weighted. Add to that a full time extension and you would expect it becomes even more butt-heavy, right? Well not exactly.

Because extensions are lower density / lighter than an equivalent butt section, the weight that they bring has less impact compared to the extra length. When you measure the balance point from the end of the cue, typical lightweight extensions actually make the cue more forward balanced.

Example: My (Mezz) playing cue has the balance point at 19" measured from the butt end. When I add a 2" extension, the balance point now becomes 20.5" from the extension end. The balance point actually moves forward 1.5" as measured from the end of the cue. Something for you to think about.

Yes but when you hold the cue in the regular position (when you don't need the extra length) you have still shifted the balance point relative to your body position. Measuring from the back of the cue was only a convention when all cues where about the same length. Thus you are making it more back heavy.

Hang a roll of quarters from the back and tell me it's not back heavy. Same thing for the extension unless you shift all the way back and you extend the amount of cue past your bridge.

Two different cues, a 58" and a 60". Each has its own distinct BP. Not sure what point you're trying to make here. I use a 3" cf ext. on my Mezz with wt. bolt removed for a 20oz total. Haven't measure the 61" cue's BP. Don't really care .

Most of these extensions are super light. I have an 8" extension and it only adds about 3oz of weight to my cue. It does change the balance point slightly. I'm not using it for playing fulltime. To me the change is minor.
