Please define "nit".

A nit is someone who talks a lot, but won't back up their talk with any bets on the table, no matter what spot or handicap they are offered. They are a blow hard, the type of guy who has diarrhea of the mouth (or keyboard) and yet never has anything useful to say. Ever.

You can identify the biggest nit in the pool hall because it will be the guy no one likes, everyone avoids/tries not to talk to, and yet he'll be the one too dumb to notice and also the loudest busybody in the place. Jerks and a-holes are generally smart enough to know people hate them, so that's the difference between them and a nit.

And as Chopstick says, every pool hall has at least one. :)

This is not the description of a nit. Nits are not often dumb and they can't wait to bet their money in good spots.

I just looked up the word nit in the urban dictionary. They have a great definition of nit for pool and poker. Lol I can't believe what it says.

Sometimes after you've been around for awhile and are a seasoned person,................

you can spot a Nit just by looking at um, they stand out in a crowd for sure!:D

The urban dictionary has it pretty well defined:

1. nit

gambling term. usually found in poolrooms. Refers to:

1. Someone who's so afraid to lose a bet that they have to be coddled and convinced for an hour that they're going to have a great time and probably win, too. Eventually they may play, but by the time they get on the table the stakes are so low the table-time will eat any winnings you make.

2. someone who won't play unless they have a guaranteed sure win.

3. someone who'll squeeze a dollar 'til george's eyes pop out of the paper.

that guy's such a nit- he wouldn't bet a nickel that water's wet.
