PLEASE DELETE.....HAVE MY Answers

This is my scenario.

I have a Cuetech Cynergy shaft that is the 3/8x14. Now in doing all my reading/research it is undersized. From what I have found I can order a undersized tap for Cuetech 3/8x14. The issue is the pin. They are not available.

The reason for this is I want a custom butt built for my Cynergy shaft. I have not had it long and I am not about to dump it as I am happy with it.

My buddy is a 40+ year machinist who also builds and repairs our competition rifles. So getting a straight proper pin is not an issue for him.

These are a few things I want to clarify for him. The fellow who i have talked to about making the butt advised to have it made 3.25" long. I will have one end threaded for the standard 3/8x10. I am assuming it is standard? I will then have him leave a shank and thread the pin end for the shaft a undersized 3/8x14. He will have my existing butt/shaft and measure the threads to be sure to make them right. I will also have him put a length wise relief cut in the shank on his mill.

I hope this is correct so far?

Last questions. How much 3/8x10 thread is enough? 1/2"?
How much undersized 3/8x14 thread? 1"?

The only reason to do the duel thread on the pin is to avoid ordering the undersized tap for the builder.

Thanks in advance.

Calvin

By the way, I am new to the forum and figured this is the place that I can get the exposure to ask questions. I play in the Aactive pool league based out of Winnipeg. My home table is at the Army and Navy in Brandon, MB

Welcome to the forum!

It's way easier to change the threads in the shaft. But if you need to go the other route, you can get a pin here:

I hear what you are saying. Not being a Cue maker or machinist, or a Cue maker just out my door I figured this would be the easiest way. This shaft is my main cue and I really do not want to have to ship it out to change the threads or having to order a special tap. But what do I know......😧😧

Have your cue made with a standard pin and just have your shaft re-threaded. Not only is Cuetec's pin anoying as it's presented as 3/8-14, but it clearly isn't. Most cue makers use Carbide sanding mandrels to get the finish diameter perfect, I doubt anyone will spend $400 for a set for a pin they never will use again..

I have used Cuetec joint screws in other Cues by using the joint screws from Cuetec Butts that I've changed for people.
But to make a Cue using that joint screw.
Big pain in the ass, biggest one as Mr. Bye pointed out,
Sanding Mandrells.
Idid make a screw out of brass for an extension. Just for fun.

Not trying to argue here but I get the sense that my point is being missed. I am not asking for a entire cue, I am just wanting a butt end. Like I mentioned earlier the pin will be made so the maker does not need anything more than the existing tooling he has.

I understand what your saying. We all do!
I don't think your understanding us and that's ok.
Good luck

Mind has been changed. Heading to pick up my cues today from having tips replaced. Hopefully they have another Cuetec of my liking. I may have my buddy turn down the butt/grip area so I can wrap it. I will likely use string that my buddy uses at his store. He makes custom bow strings and that stuff is tough and will last a long long time. If it screws up no deal to replace.

Thanks to those that replied.

I hope they don't delete this. Forums are not about one person getting his answer. Threads should not be deleted unless they are offensive/illicit to begin with. Information provided by experts in this thread should be saved for future reference.

Think of it the way you want. We are all entitled to our opinions.

I asked a question to make sure I have the pin made right and there was not one answer to my questions. Every answer was get the shaft rethreaded or it is a pain in the ass. That was disappointing to read. My opinion and this is my opinion, custom cuemaker as long as you have this. What you have is crap.

You DID get several replies to your question and you got some really good advice based on years of knowledge. All cue makers have customers that have ideas that might sound good in their head, but from a practical standpoint isn't. Your post is one of them, I'm sorry that's dissapointing for you to read, but if you take the advice, it will save you a lot of frustration down the line..

You got replies from experts. I bet that is more than you got when you asked cuetec.
