Hi all,

Firstly, the local guy charges $50 (with a 24-48 hour wait) to put on a new moori...and now, he's got a kid younger than I am doing the actual work...and he messed up one of my ferulles pretty bad...would someone here help me please? I'm willing to pay the shipping costs in order to avoid another experience like that...I live in Bend, Oregon...also, It would be great if I end up doing business with you, if I had the options of fiber backings, and pressed and burnished lepros and elkmasters.

I have one more question...my custom breaker is almost done, it will have 14mm shafts...nevermind the reason for the size, could I change those tips myself (if they're 14mm, without a lathe)?

If so, what methods do you use to remove, and adhere new tips? would a blowdryer and rubber cement work?

Thank you so much for your help,
-Aaron

Proper_,

I live in a town that makes Bend look like New York City. We lost the only guy in town who could replace tips. I'll be watching this thred to see what kind of responses you get. Otherwise, I'll be buying a lathe just to replace my tips. Don't really want to do that.

Good luck.

I'm in Springfield, you could almost drive them here.
I charge half the price and am very meticulous.

any of you guys seeking quality repair work are more than welcome to contact me. I'm in Sacramento , and my work should speak for itself. From tips, to a full restoration. The only thing I do not do is cnc work. Oh ya , I only charge $30 for a moori , and I promise your shaft will come back to you the same size as it left!!!kevin mcclain, 530-329-1373

I'm not dismissing the quality of work of anyone else who's offered their help, but if Sheldon is volunteering his services, I'd give him serious consideration.

Sheldon

I have seen alot of Sheldons work and it is outstanding. So if you can get them to him I would do it. JMHO.

No lathe needed for tip replacement DYI

e-bay store americancowboybilliards.com has DYI TIP replacement step by step and tools, glue, tips, clamps, and my dremel tool armed with a 1/2" barrel sander acts like a lathe as you rotate the shaft tip lightly against it!

I never trusted those tip trimmers next too the ferrels!
I just found its easy too put a 14 mm tip on and take it down too 13mm so i can try different tips out and not pay too wait!

Just think it through each step,i found it prudent too wrap a 3" piece of paper around the end of shaft for the top rapid sander clamp!

No scratches ever! my blue healer Tiffany wants to bite my dremel tool into bits!!!!!

That's the same reason i started putting on my own tips. some jerk mutilated one of my ferrules so i bought some tape, razors, and sand paper and started putting them on myself. they don't always look as pretty as one done by someone with a lathe but i haven't damaged any of my ferrules

50 bones for a new tip is way too much. you could just buy the tips and put 'em on yourself for the price of the tip plus shipping

Sorry that you got burned by the local guy.

Whomever you choose to do the work, make sure they have plenty of experience (meaning years, not months) & not some guy who just got a lathe and some cue repair videos the previous month.

For my money, I would go with KJ Cues' suggestion that if Sheldon Lebow is offering his services, to take him up on it.

And if you are planning on doing your own tips, get some cheap house cues to practice, practice, practice & learn on before trying it with any of your valued cues.

I too would recommend Sheldon.

I'd like to thank everyone for their time and help, thank you.

Sheldon is the closest to where I live, well priced, and obviously well respected, so naturally I gotta go with him.

PM sent, thank you.
