I am the head ref for the Korea Pro Pool Tour and I need your help!

I am looking for a ball replacement spot when a player requests a cleaning on one of the balls during a television match.

Last December while Thorsten Hohmann was playing, he asked for the cue ball to be cleaned. I did it my normal way and it was fine but he mentioned to me after the match that there is a new item that will give you a perfect spot every time. He said they used it during the Mosconi Cup? I have been searching high and low for this thing and can't seem to find it.

If anyone has any ideas or information on where I can pick one up, then please let me know! Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks sooooo much in advance!

Justin

I use a small business card. I cut a "V" in one end of the card. You can slide the card gently up to the ball until it touches. Remove and clean the ball, then set it back into the cut out of the card, and slide the card away.

I really don't know what they used at the open, but there is a hard plastic Card that comes in the Elephant Practice Balls set that looks like a thick business card with a V cut into it.

Mac...

Mac,

I think I did it right but could you send me a pic just to make sure? It seems to work out on the table but I just want to double check...

Really appreciate it 100%

Thanks!
Justin

make one.....

just glue two blocks of wood together. they don't even have to be matched well, or be right angled or anything...they just have to be stable when you put it on the cloth, and tall enough to touch the ball's side.

or just bend a sheet of metal

Being that he's a referee in a professional tour, I doubt he would want to use a homemade one when he can find a perfect one for cheap. If I saw a referee pull out a block of wood to do that, I'd start laughing.

Snooker ball markers work fine, I believe a ref used them at the worlds a few years ago. The ref marked the ball and the US commentator thought it was a great idea. I don't think he knew it is a regularly used device.

We used to use two coins. One hand pins the ball while the other slides the coins up against it. Once the coins are touching each other and the ball, you can roll the ball away. Close enough for farm workers.

Oh, for Heaven's sakes

You wet your finger and mark the cloth where
the base of the ball is when you remove it .... lol

haha...
I was playing once in a hot and humid bar comp and asked the ref to clean the ball after getting a horrible skid and noticing the CB was covered in chalk and muck.

The ref, a real old schooler, and seasoned smart ass (hell of a character is Danny Higgins though), picks up the CB then sticks his finger in his mouth and prececeded to stick his dripping finger in a spot about 3 inches from where the CB actually was. Then he slams the CB back onto the table about an inch from the wet spot, leaving it in a chipped plug hole.

I did make the next shot out of that sloppy divot, but needless to say I didn't ask him to clean the ball again:(
