Please help my cue purchase decision ($800-1000 range)

I'm just getting back after about a 19-year hiatus from the game. Sold my old Robinson cue a few years ago (which I really loved) and now faced with the decision of what to buy. Being out of the scene for so long, I'm having to learn many things with respect to cue makers, technology changes, etc.

I had been checking out OB (OB-134 in particular) but am open to the idea of buying used. I'd rather get something sooner than later so the adjustment period would be an easier transition. Ideally would like to get something that not only plays well but has a chance to retain it's value. Would be nice to find a place to hit with a few different cues but selection around me seems to be lacking. Furthermore, as I understand it, many B&M stores don't really carry a big inventory on hand.

Any input would be appreciated.

Get yourself a good used Schon for $550-650, and save yourself some money.

Your OB is a very solid choice in my opinion. You also dont need to spend that amount. You can def stay in the 4-600 dollar and get a cue that plays just as well. If you like the design of the OB 134 and you can afford it, Go for it!!! OB is top notch and they have awesome warranties. You also have choices on 5-6 different shafts to choose from when you buy from OB so you have plenty of options. Also check out schon or predator. I dont think you would be disappointed with any of those choices. With that price you can go custom as well but idk too much about customs. Good Luck and I hope you enjoy your future purchase.

Production cues do not hold their value very well if you decide to resale them. A Schon will hold its value better than most.

You can get a real nice custom cue the way you want it from many cuemakers on this forum in your price range. This is the route I would go.

If you are interested I may be willing to part with a Runde Fancy Sneaky. I didn't think I could type that statement, ,but someone needs to enjoy her and you will never lose money on the price I will give you. Only may be looking to sell it because I just got my new one and prefer the weight of it and I do not need two Runde players, I have a collector cue made by Bob, so I think I'm ready to let someone else enjoy his amazing work. I have not listed this cue anywhere, you get first shot, let me know if you are interested, it is on the low end of your range price range and If you want it refinished by Bob before it is shipped I can arrange for it and it will still fall in your range. THx, Tom
I also have a R1 made by Bob below your range with 2 shafts, one being yellow Micarta

Thanks Tom, I'm open at this point. So if you have any pictures, please feel free to post here or PM me.

Going this route is the direction I'm leaning in. Not necessarily Schon, but something custom. The only thing that is totally new to me is this whole low deflection shaft that people seem to rave about. Though I've noticed the newer Mezz cues offer those now?

If you are willing to spend that kind of money go with a custom. It may not be all tricked out but it will be nice and play great. Gilbert, Chris Nitti have cues in this price range. Iam sure others do as well but these are people that I have dealt with in the past. Good luck!

For that money Bob Danielson makes you an awesome cue with his own SS360/2 LD shaft .

Everyone who bought a BD cue due to my recommendations can't thank me enough , it's one of the best playing cues out there for the moment .
And his prices are very reasonable to say the least .

Buy one and you will be amazed !

You Can Trust The Word of Shooter08

For what it's worth, you can rely upon Tom's word being the gospel truth......he 'll tell you everything up front that you need or would want to know about one of his cues you might consider.......and Mr. Runde is truly a gifted cue-maker and will be retiring soon. I got word of that from a close friend of Bob's and the marketplace attests to Runde cues being really excellent pool cues.....FYI.

I ended up with a Runde and am very excited to play with it.

Tom and I spoke extensively and he was very kind to devote a lot of time to go over all the details with me. In the end, he didn't have what I was looking for, but I found him to be a genuinely good and unbiased person with a willingness to help (even if it meant he didn't get a sale out of it). For that reason, he'll be the first person I talk to for any other future purchases.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I know you will love your Runde. Tom (Shooter08)

Thanks, Matt B also. You guys don't have any idea how much your trust and compliments mean to me. Tom (Shooter08)
