I use a New Dollar Bill to Burnish Tips, it work GREAT, with a Small amonut of Saliva ion the Mushroom, and is almost a FREEBEE.... ;)

every time I chalk up, I run a slightly damp thumb and forefinger around the edge of the tip,,,,after I scuff/pick a tip, I use my Porper tip burnisher,,,,works for me !

i hate the 'ring around the ferrule', so I keep it clean and only use MY chalk...

I was late for the office this morning because I overslept, not because of a train delay.

Wait, were we talking about POOL secrets?

its not really a secret, but i do have a "tick" or tendancy or whatever you want to call it.

whenever i chalk up, i stroke the tip/ferrule all the way through and out of my fingers to get any chalk residue, or powder off my ferrule.

i'm sure other people do this, but i do this EVERY time i chalk up out of instinct. i can't stand when i step into a shot and see blue powder on my ferrule.

I wet the sides of the tip with my finger and polish it from time to time.

I do remember reading something about not using your fingers to do anything with the sides of the tip due to oil in your fingers or something.

Anyone else heard that before?

i've heard this before. made me wonder though, since sometimes the actual tip comes into contact with your fingers when you're stroking.........wouldn't that let the oil rub off as well?????

i black the sides of my tip out with a marker, it makes the leather wear out quicker, but i don't like a tall tip, and i play so much that i'm replacing the tip every other month.

So far as secrets go... At one time I thought it might be a good idea to "not share" certain information (locally with other players) I learned which *really* gave me an advantage when playing pool.

As it turns out, the vast majority of players will not listen to *any* advice or tips. So I can tell them all sorts of "secrets" and most will not realize what they are being told or how valuable the info is.

There are a few who do listen though. One is a top player who has gone out of his way to help me and he is quick to ask me for additional info/printed sheets on things I mention which are new to him. Another is a top player who knows all the tricks (I mean everything). But every once in a while I come up with something he has not heard of. He is all ears. The third is a beginner who I gave a copy of my practice sheet to and he is quickly getting to where he can beat most other players.

All the others already know everything they need to know. So I can blab away and it goes in one ear and out the other. Not to worry!

I use a really abrasive Scoth-Brite pad on my shaft to clean it and remove any nicks .............................APRIL FOOL'S!! :D

I use saliva and a scotch brite to burnish the tip. If I don't have one, I wet the tip and burnish it on the rail cloth. Shhh, dont tell anyone :D

Here is an 8 Ball tip that seems to be a secret in my favorite pool hall.

As soon as you realize you can't get out, STOP POCKETING BALLS and develope your problem ball(s) by moving them or moving a breakout ball near it... All while playing safe... or set a trap for your opponent to break it out...

I never heard of "Lizard Acres", Bruce... I'm in Glendale...

I use my fingers because they have oil on them.,,,if I use a stick that's been in the rack (my rack) for a while, I put mink oil boot polish on the sides of the tip and burnish,,,

An OldHasBeens Solution............

When my tip needs to be burnished - I take my finger and rub it behind my ear - there is always good oil behind every ear at the bottom. I used to use a $bill to burn it in but I have now found that the backing off of a Priority Mail Address Label does a much better job if you use the real slick side.

Your Welcome,
TY & GL

I use saliva on my opponents tip when he isn't looking. :D It doesn't do much for my tip but it seems like I get ball in hand a lot during the match.

What I see so far on this thread seem to be tips rather than secrets...altho' I can see some humor about it....I used to think that the PROS really knew secrets to the game...I mean something which if revealed, would really elevate one's game....but later I figured there are no secrets..you just have to practice, practice, practice...However, if there are secrets, people don't want to give them away for free, because it probably cost them money to learn it for themselves....I once took some lessons from a pro-level player, and he DID show me some things on the table I would maybe never have learned on my own.....I guess they would qualify as secrets....
