Any suggestions as to how I might correct this? I tried loosening the bolts, and repositioning the castings so they were flush. But when I tightened the bolts, the castings squirted back up. My apologies if you've addressed this before. I couldn't seem to find a useful search criteria. Thanks in advance.

Try shimming between the rail and the bottom "ear" of the casting. Small wedges inserted until the tightened casting sits relatively flat with the bolt snugged down should resolve your problem. You may have to do some trial and error adjusting to get them where you want them. Remember to trim off the excess tail of the shim so you rails don't sit high. The shim material should only be between the metal ear and the rail.

Sand some wood off the top of the rail where the casting sits. You need to shim as Jay pointed out as well.
The casting should go down a lot better than what your showing with the sanding and shimming.

Take your time....good luck.....it's going to drive you crazy.
