Pocket Chalkers and Pro's under pressure

What works best, is what works best. I would guess that people at the top of their game aren't worried about appearing like an amateur. They are going to use the best tools for the job no matter how they look.

But aren't you saying they (Pros) don't ?

If you use one just be sure it matches your glove or everyone will laugh at you.

I'm not sure about your intent here, but if you are saying gloves are for chumps and feel like posting some cash I'm sure Shane or Schmidt would love to play some.

I usually keep my own chalk as I dont want to use house chalk because god knows what could be mixed in with it...

I just keep a piece in my pocket...

You can remove the chalk as it wears down and place some folded paper underneath like a shim. That way you can use the whole cube even as it wears down.

Dana:

That's exactly right. And, if one uses the magnetic belt-clip types (e.g. like the ChalkShark), you can completely dispense with the plastic holder, and just glue a metal disk to the bottom of the cube of chalk. For example, I have a licensed electrician friend, and he handed me a bag of electrical box "knockouts" one day (the little circular disks removed from an electrical box to open the hole in the box for a cable fitting to attach to):

Those little "knockout" disks are the perfect size to glue onto the bottom of a cube of chalk (using a polyurethane glue like "Gorilla glue"), and they stick well to the neodymium magnet on the belt clip. Best part is you can wear the cube of chalk down as far as you like -- nothing to get in the way of doing that.

I used nickels for this when I used a pocket chalker.

I used to keep my chalk in my pocket, then I switched to using the chalk on the table. One advantage of the chalk on the table is you can use the time it takes to move around aranging the chalk for composing yourself.

After a couple of years of this I felt I didn't need the time to think or gather myself and went to a magnetic chalk holder with my own chalk. This works great since you are allways ready to shoot and do not have to hunt down chalk or move chalk out of the way.But since the overwhelming majority of players use the chalk on the rail I found it a hassle to use my chalk and then move thier chalk out of the way.It seams when you have your own chalk then the chalk lying around on the rail becomes very noticable and allways in the way.It got to when I am playing someone, more and more chalk cubes apear on the rail until there are chalk cubes everywhere.

So I am back to using the chalk on the rail like everyone else....

With some players/opponents, the chalk ends up grouped together in one spot. Other players hoard the chalk and it ends up on a side table near their seat or someplace other than on the playing table itself.

Not sure if this is sharking or unconscious. Either way, it can get annoying so I bought a pocket chalker.
