I just got a new table. Is this the way the cloth should like in the pockets? Thank for any help!

Yes

You have to slit the inside of the pockets because they are round! and the cloth is straight! So in order for a tighter fitting cloth with no wrinkles this is the way it must be done. I see whoever set it up was nice enough to put a strip of felt behind the slits, this is good because it looks better and helps protect the balls and slate.
The guy could have cut them better, or less conspiciously, but it looks fine. As long as you cannot "pinch an inch" so to speak of the felt; than it should be just fine... do you play on that part of the table?

not really

That may be standard practice, but you can get the pockets to look a lot better than that. U don't see the ones on television lookin like that. As a installer for many years now, I have learned how to do any pocket without slits. it's a pain in the butt, however it looks much more classy than those slits. At least you could get somebody to do it over so the slits aren't up so damn high...lol

9BNut,
I have seen pockets without slits, but they all have bunches/wrinkles in the cloth around the pocket. I have seen the slits, and the cloth sits perfectly (as long as it plays well I couldn't care less what it looks like).

Could you give us a brief summary of your technique? I would like to perhaps have it tried when my table is re-covered soon (my table has the slits now).

I have done them both ways and the way with the cuts is the easier and better way to do it. You cant pull it very tight at the middle pockets because it will pucker/bunch up for sure without the cuts, when you cut them you can pull it tight and then cut it so it lays flat and is super tight. The cuts do look better when they are symetrical and are cut neatly with snips , barely noticable i.m.o

I agree with Mech/player. It is easier and the felt can stay tighter. To Do It without the slits is time consuming and frustrating at times if you don,t want to have wrinkles a week later. I just think that those slits are cut way to high and not stretched down far enough. Willie.... pm me about this. Unless the person is a quality fanatic, I wouldn't recommend having someone do it like that unless they have done it a bunch of times.

for some reason mech.. I can't see that image. But don't u think that they should have stapled under the slate not right in the pocket where u can see them? (original picture)

The link should be working now. To me it looks like they pulled it to tight in the pocket area to do a nice neat job. The cuts in the pic are so wide because it streched when they were cut. I always try to keep my staples as low as possible.

Mech... Is that the fold method? I really like that method for pockets. Not a lot of people doing it that way. That's sweet!

Thanks, nothing really tricky about it, make your cuts as low as possible, staple's low as possible, then take a piece of cloth cut to size and staple a row of staples above the cuts and staples and fold it down and staple to the frame so it covers the exposed frame in the pocket area.

If that's the only problem you had with your table consider yourself lucky. The guys who installed my table left one long rail not straight and didn't get it level. The three stooges could have done better.

lol... To many guys doing crappy work, that's for sure. Mech...., do your customers like that method? I've had mixed reviews from mine. Some have made me change it, said the didn't like that line look.

I have never had any complaints doing it this way. I have found out different people expect different things, Theres a big difference between doing a montebello that only gets played on at thanksgiving and christmas and doing a barbox. The guy with the montebelo doesnt want to see any staples and everything has to be neat and perfect, the guy with the barbox just wants a fast playing table and is not all hung up on how the out of play area looks.
